Hello,  looking for advice if anyone here has every kept up their business during a serious illness or during chemotherapy?

I was in the hospital the week of christmas from dehydration, got to go home Christmas morning.  They will be reducing the amount of chemo when I go back on Monday (I have a pump I wear 24/7 M-F, also doing radiation M-F).  The end of January I will start the chemo will do the once every 2 weeks chemo infustion.

Just wanted some advice on how you handle doing your business.  I have a show in January but I leary about side affects kicking in again.  Right now I feel pretty good.  Got back into the office to catch up on things that were put off.

Ann R.

Let the guests do all the fun work.

Tell them your story about how you can even do this fun career while undergoing chemo and radiation. Let them ask questions and I am sure they will help.

I only know this because I had surgery this month on my leg to remove a mass and had a show shortly after. When I told my story the guest wanted to help and had a blast doing it.

Plus your story could book up your May shows.

If you know your treatment calendar book around that.

Also push catalog shows. Push Push Push to the guest who helped out and had fun doing it.

How about your cluster. Would your director help if need be?

Do you have a recruit in mind? This person could practice a show by helping you.

Best wishes to you and better health in the new year.

I remember someone on here talking about how they threw together a catalog show while in the hospital.  Takes guts, but worth a shot!  Maybe you can recruit some of your doctors/nurses to pass a catalog?  Hopefully you won't be admitted again anytime soon though!

I second the catalog shows suggestion.  Call people up, let them know what's going on with your treatments and I'd be there's a bunch of past hosts/guests who would love to do catalog shows for you!  With chemo and radiation these are your best bets at not getting sick.  You already know how vulnerable your body is during these.  Your body also gets tired very easily.

Also let your hosts do most of your unpacking and hard work for you at your shows.  Most of my hosts are more than willing to help me unload stuff from my car and I'm completely able to do it.  If they're aware of your need for help, they'll be happy to help.  The hard part is asking...or bring your hubby or an extra set of hands along to unload the vehicle and load it back up.  I've had host's hubbys load my car back up for me after parties!  I LOVE that! lol!

Interactive shows are definately the way to go.  That way you have everyone else doing the demo while you're free to answer questions and talk about products (and sit if you need to).  This is the only way I do my shows and I do very little cooking or handling products myself.  Come to think of it, what do I do at interactive shows? lol!

Another suggestion would be to have the parties in your home.  That way you're not lugging stuff all over.  Some hosts might be relieved to not have to clean their house to entertain!  Of course not everyone will go for it, but it's always worth a shot.  What about a monthly/bi-monthly cooking class in your home or open houses?

Like Tonya said, work around your chemo schedule.  Some people know when they'll feel the worst with chemo and when they generally feel the best.  And you know your side effects better than anyone else.  If you happen to be one of those people, you can schedule better that way.  I know it's not 100%, but if you know you have a treatment on Tuesday, you'll know you won't want to be doing a show for the next few days following...This is where the "work when YOU want to work" really comes into play.  We all too often give in to a host just so we can have the booking.  Your health comes first and I think your hosts will understand that.

I admire your drive to keep your biz in full swing!!  That is awesome!!!  But promise us you won't wear yourself too thin, Ann.

When I was being treated I managed to stay active by doing a by monthly catalog show. Most people are willing to help knowing the circumstances. Once I did a mystery host catalog party and drew a name to get the host reward.

By the way I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. You are defiantly going through a lot and remember you can take a retro waver if needed. Others here can tell you more about that. I hope only the best for you! Best wishes to you during this time.
