Here's what the catalog says:

Decorate cakes and cupcakes using powdered sugar, cocoa powder or sprinkles. Easy-to-clean, Mylar® stencil designs are interchangeable: 9-inch swirl, star border, lattice border, "Happy Birthday" insert, balloon insert, small star and small heart. Unique tabs lift stencils off cakes easily.

What do you say?

I don't have it, but my 6 and 4 yr old keep bugging me to get it! I make cakes on the side and they want to "help". It is a great way for kids to help participate in special events for family!

If you're wanting to eliminate that extra frosting on your cakes, but would still like to make them look nice, reach for one of these babies & along with your Flour/Sugar Shaker filled with powdered sugar, & give it a good dusting. Very pretty, yet very simple & lower fat!! What more can you ask for?!

  • When decorating a frosted dessert, allow frosting to set before using stencil.
  • When using nonpareils, sprinkles or colored sugar crystals, spray dull side of stencil with nonstick cooking spray. Place stencil on cake, oil side up. The excess decorations will adhere to the oil.
  • When using multiple colors, cover other areas of stencil with paper to prevent blending.

Any other tips for using this product?

How about alternate uses other than decorating cakes?

Michelle

Let your child use the stencil to trace the shapes (with a pencil so any that gets on the stencil will wash off) onto brown or white butcher paper and then they can color and personalize it to wrap gifts in for friends and family. It is wrapping paper and a card in one. Save yourself about $3 each time you do this. After your fifth use you have paid for it and the shipping on it in the money you saved!

The balloons can be altered to resemble a flower bouquet.
The heart can be placed in groups of three and four with the points touching to make 3 and 4 leaf clovers.
The stars can be made into flowers that have a different shaped petal.
Use the individual shapes to make "frames" for the letters in the receiving person's name.

I love making brownies in my family skillet and have used the cake stencils with powdered sugar to make cute designs.  This is fun to do at a show - especially the swirl.  I have also used the "spray" frosting before.  That's a little trickier though...

I've just pulled out my set in prep for a cake I have to bake tomorrow & I will be using the swirl pattern along with powdered sugar over the top. Btw, it's the Pumpkin Ribbon Cake from the Delightful Desserts cookbook. I used to make this all the time but years ago I had to always use the recipe's Cook's Tip of making a paper stencil out of Parchment Paper. Using the stencils instead will sure save you the time of cutting out your own design each time, and that alone is sooo worth it....

PS  Funny thing, after all these years, I just NOW discovered the section called Creative Ideas 4 Use on the backside of the storage sleeve!! (LOL) I knew about some of them already, but hey I just learned somethings new about them, too, & all b/c we started this thread on the Cake Stencils!! LOL

Anyhoot, here are some of these ideas:

~ For a raised frosting design on cupcakes, position small stencil over plain cupcake; press down lightly . Spread frosting over cut-out area of stencil design; sprinkle with decorations.

~ Try colored sugar crystals, nonpareils, sprinkles, colored decorating spray or gel.

~ Create a contrasting design by sifting powdered sugar over one half of stencil; sift unsweetened cocoa powder over remaining half of stencil.

~ (And my personal fave that I think would qualify as a Show Stopper for sure....) Dress up dessert plates or serving platters!! Place stencil on plate; sift powdered sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder or ground cinnamon. Remove stencil & place dessert on plate. Paprika is a perfect option for savory dishes.... (I'm thinkin' along the lines of a slice of meatloaf or one of the mini-bundt meatloaves!!)
