The Most Important Thing on Your Home Page by Janet Attard
If I asked you what the most important thing on the home page of your website is, what would you answer?
Would you respond with one of these answers?
The headline The web page title The attractive web design The cool flash page you see before the home page loads The picture of your product The video demonstration you included on the page The bullet points to get people to keep reading The buy now button
Well, if you chose any of those answers, you're wrong. The most important thing on your home page is your customer.
Web pages (at least your home page and other "landing pages" shouldn't be you-focused. Your company should not be the spotlight of the page. The customer and their special needs should be the focus. Instead of saying "Green & Company has top notch consultants who can improve you operational efficiency," say, "Never lose a customer sample again. Track samples through every step from the time they arrive at your lab until results are delivered and the customer is billed..." Catch the customer's interest in this way and you'll get more leads and sales from your website.
