Day One: BUSINESS CARDS

 Back to DirectSalesOffice.com Babysteps

Business cards are your most cost effective advertising tool, so it's important to create a card that gets attention, explains what you do, and most importantly GETS USED! If you order 1000 business cards and they sit on your shelf for the next 2 years because you think you can't possibly meet 1000 people, they will do nothing for you. Let's start at the beginning.

Color - You want a colorful card, but don't overdo it. A great logo, or even your own photo is helpful in drawing someone's eye to your card that might be laying on a table or in a shopping cart. Try to make sure any photos or graphics relate to your business. Make sure your text is large enough to read.

Contact Information - Your title and contact information is obviously important. You may want to skip your title though if it doesn't really mean anything to a potential host or recruit. Instead use that space for a great saying or special.

Use the back - A business card turned over is a waste if there is nothing on the back! For direct sales we often have to choose between marketing our parties and marketing our business opportunity. With business cards we can do both! Something as simple as "Thinking about starting a business? Ask me about becoming a consultant!" is simple and effective!

Do something different - Business cards can get boring, so try thinking about them as a little advertisement. What is the one thing you MUST have in all advertisements? A CALL TO ACTION! Think about adding a coupon, host reward, or something else to your card. For instance:

Call me on Monday to host and receive a FREE gift! Return this card for a 20% discount on one item!

USE your card - As I said before, if your business cards collect dust in a box on your bookshelf they aren't working. You should always have cards in your car, purse, wallet, and your pocket. Get into the habit of making sure all of your stashes are fully stocked. As you go about your day, leave at least 2 business cards everywhere you go:

Doctors Office

Dentist Office

Accountants

Lawyers

Coffee Shop

Nursing rooms

Playgroups

Dry cleaners

Salons

Waiting Areas

Libraries

Bathrooms

Benches

Bridal Shops

Church bulletin

Bingo Halls

Autoshops

Laundromats

Delis

Pizza Shops

Donut Shops

Kids Activities/Sports

Realtors

Magazine Racks

Teacher's Lounge

Consignment Shops

Dressing Rooms

Pool Changerooms

Tanning Salons

Hotel Brochure Areas

On the drivers side door window of the 2 cars parked closest to you every time you park your car somewhere. Stick it right into the rubber surrounding the window!

If your direct sales company doesn't create business cards for you, we trust Vistaprint.com
