Thanks for the update. That's certainly cleared things up.
Actually, I think I'm pretty sad that Big P is no longer with us. I had a lot of respect for the guy - after all, for three years he was the closest I had to a father figure. Sorry to get all deep all of a sudden.
To this day, I can still hear his voice. When my Mrs and I took a short holiday break on a farm near Bridgwater in 1987, I called the school to see if it was ok to visit. Big P answered the phone. The call went pretty much exactly like this (and as I said, I can still hear his voice to this day)
Me: "Hello. I was a pupil of the school in the 1970's and I'm in the area on holiday with my wife - I was wondering if it would be ok for me to visit the school with my wife?"
Big P: "That depends who you are, I may not want you coming back...(!)"
Me: "My name is Brian Perryman, I was there between 1972 and 1975 with my brother, Neil."
(Slight pause)
Big P: "Oh yes, Brian. That's ok. Come whenever you want on Saturday. If I'm not around, ask for Mr Warriner."
...and so it went. I don't know why this particular conversation should stand out so clearly in my mind, from nearly 15 years ago, but it does.
Cheers!
