I'm sure there are many people in this community that remember Bill. As you may or may not be aware he has been very ill over the last few years. He assures me he's on the mend so on the 4th through to the 7th July we are going to tackle Snowdon. Taking the same route we took as a squad back in the early 80s.My son will accompany us as he is now the same age as I was on the original trip.If anyone would like me to pass on your regards to Bill I will be more than happy to do so. |

Barney, Yes, please pass mine on. In fact I have been sorting through aload of old stuff in the loft over the last few weeks and found all my GCSE art work I did. It was my only decent grade so I have Bill to thank for that - I'm not sure I ever did, so if you could do so on my behalf I would be greatful. Regards, Marcus Angel (Calss of 89). |

I wasn't aware that Mr Owen was ill - what is he up to these days - selling paintings or still teaching? Mr Owen taught me GCSE art so he may even remember me .... I also went on a school 'D of E' trip will him once, but never a proper trip up the mountain or anything - although others from my year did. Well I hope your climb goes well, Mike

I've been away for a while so I don't know how much you know about Bill since he taught at Quantock. We passed a few emails back and forth when he was in Kuwait teaching, but its only since he started work in Germany that we spoke more.He still has his cottage in Bideford which he visits on a fairly regular basis. He is winning a battle with prostrate cancer but still has bad days.Mike,Marcus,Zara. I know he will be thrilled to know that there are still people who remember him.I will let you know how the trip went and post a few photos of us at the summit. Barney,(Darren Watret, class of 85) |

Barney, Very odd. I saw a person in Croyde bay (nr Barnstable) who looked really familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. As he got on the bus he even gave me a nod of recognition! I'm beginning to think it may have been Mr Owen?? I though you had put a photo on this web site, but I can't find it .... can you be of any help ?? Could have been Mr Phil I suppose as I didn't get a real good look!! Mike |

Mike, Can't have been Mr Phil. He would have stood over you. Then looked down at you while moving up and down on his toes, and made you confess to not having paid the bus fare. Even if you had paid the fare you would have confessed to robbing the bus company. (well that's the Mr Phil I knew !) Laurie |

Hi Barney I have only just started to read a lot of the messages on the board. I have fond memories of Bill. He started teaching at QS while I was there and continued after I left. He probably wont remember me but I was one of his potentially better students but he maintained I let him down in the O levels by not doing any course work. I also remember him being very religious at the time. He will probably remember one of my mates Jonathon Firrell (Titch). Titch was a rebel and eventually got expelled but was a misunderstood individual that no one could handle. Bill did screen printing with us on T Shirts. Titch , in complete innoscence, printed HAPPINESS IS A ROD IN THE HAND. Titch being a keen fisherman. We were only in the second year at the time but the 4th and 5th year soon saw the hidden retort and went to Bill to place orders for a print. Unfortunately Bill didn't pick up on this until Big P pointed out the alternative meaning much to his embarassment. I don't think he forgave Titch and certainly believed Titch had done this deliberately. Anyway if you get this message perhaps you culd pass it on to Bill with my warmest regards. Hope he remembers me. Karl Arthurs |

Hi Karl, What the heck did this "Titch" chap do to get expelled. Must have been something fab that I never thought of. Laurie |

Please pass on my regards to Bill - he will remember me as I went on at least 10 DofE expeditions with him - I would also love to climb Snowdon with him over that weekend. Jonathon Bradshaw |
