Out of a london fog there stepped
Into a chemist Shop,
A lanky man in a shabby suit,
With a shapeless hat on top.
" I am an australian," he said,
" Homesick and feeling blue.
I saw your lights and thought I'd ask
A favour, mate, of you!"
" Oh, no my man," the chemist said,
" I'm no dog in the manger,
Soon I'd have to beg like you
If I gave to every stranger.
" I did not come here to cadge for cash,"
Said the man from the land of the wattle,
" All I want is a bit of a sniff
At your eucalyptus bottle!"
