Auschwitz Remembered - 60 years on
I was not there, but might have been
I did not see, but might have seen,
I was not forced aboard a train.
I did not know inflicted pain.
I did not witness deep despair
I did not breathe the poisoned air.
I did not share the fear of death.
I did not dig the frozen earth.
I did not have to bear the shame
Of numbered arm, forgotten name.
I did not see where thousands died.
I was not there -----but today I cried.
Lest we forget
