Releasing the chain around her neck,
She looks at the heart within her hand.
Promising forever as he had placed it,
Around her neck with care and a kiss.
Placing it in the satin-filled box,
She remembers the nights of laughter.
Playing games of solitary till dawn,
Just so he would win at least once.
Pictures of a wedding they had planed,
Music, flowers, the guest and the cake.
The rings they would exchange on that day,
So all would know of their promise and love.
Lifting a small box, she opens the lid,
Laying inside were the rings of gold,
Simple bands were all they wanted.
Each with the others name inside.
Replacing the lid, she held it close,
Just for a second she saw him there.
Into the satin-filled box it was placed,
All of the memories went in also.
As she hides it away the tear’s no longer wait.
Sinking to the floor they can hear her voice,
Crying for the love that is no longer there.
Feeling the pain that has replaced her love.
She questioned her God on that day.
Not understanding why he was taken.
Feeling the numbness and loneliness,
Suddenly it all hit home, he was gone.
Today would have been their wedding day.
All the promises and plans are now gone.
Looking again just one last time she leaves,
An empty house not a home, sits alone and cold.
The life inside her died that day,
Yet somehow she must move on.
Hoping tomorrow will bring new feelings,
For a future with untold promises of love.
