HI THERE  , I MUST ADMIT WE HAVENT ANY PROBLEMS AT OUR SURGERY , I PHONED UP AT 8.30AM AND I GOT TO SEE A DOCTOR AT 10.45AM THE SAME DAY. WE HAVE A VERY GOOD SURGERY HERE SO I TAKE IT WE ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES. BUT WHAT GETS ME IS THE WAITING FOR THE HOSPITAL APPOINTMENTS TO SEE A DOCTOR THERE. CLIFF HAS BEEN POORLY FOR 6 WEEKS NOW AND BEEN BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS TO THE DOCTORS. WELL THE DOCTOR SENT A LETTER OFF IN  FEBRUARY AND WE STILL HADNT HEARD, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD RING STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL MYSELF AND SPEAK TO THE RECEPTIONIST. SHE THEN TOLD ME THAT HE WAS DUE TO GET A LETTER IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY . I THEN SAID ITS DIGUSTING AS HE STILL ISNT WELL AND HE COULD BE WORSE BY THEN, SO SHE TOLD ME THEN TO GO BACK TO THE DOCTOR AT THE SURGERY AND TELL HIM TO PHONE DIRECT TO HER WITH HER NAME AND NUMBER TO SAY THAT HE NEEDS TO SEE A CONSULTANT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WELL I DONE THAT AND THE DOCTOR PHONED THE LADY UP AND THE VERY NEXT DAY WHICH WAS A WEEK AGO SAID HE IS GETTING AN APPOINTMENT FOR NEXT TUESDAY THE 9TH MAY.IT JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO NOW TO GET ANYTHING DONE THERE AT THE HOSPITALS. IT SHOULDNT BE LIKE THAT . IF YOU WENT PRIVATE THATS A DIFFERENT MATTER  BUT THEN SOME OF US DONT HAVE THE MONEY TO DO THAT. ROSE

Roy I think in some ways I have to agree with you, when Og was first ill and I took him to A&E they did not hesitate to take him in and the care he got was second to none in all the weeks he was there. Recently things seem to have slipped a litle but,,, he has been given a bed and although it has taken a while we seem to have got the recent required op and they on the wards are doing everything they can. It has required quite a few outbursts to get things done  both from me and the sister on the ward but thank goodness we have got there, and we would never manage without the service being there.

But in the day and age of closing all the wards everywhere, here included , we really do have to be pleased we have this service.

Also I have been dealing with the Hospital for almost 30yrs now since my first daughter was born and had a foot problem and then with my youngest and her rare disorder and I have so much to thank them for in these matters.

There is also the other side of course  which we tend to hear much more about, about the waiting lists  cancelled ops etc. Yes I agree this does happen and when it happens to you it is very annoying as we well know from experience. But then again  I have to say all the positive sides outweigh the negative for us here.

I had anoccasion when I had an op and it went drastically wrong, but that did not put me off the system apart from I requested not to ever let that surgeon near me ever again for fear of what I might do LOL.

Drs appontments....... my only gripe is not being able to pre book but must say, the practice has 3 locations here along the immediate coast and can always get an appointment at some time that day, even in the summer when we have the thousands of holidaymakers needing the service too, so thats good.

looks like up to now there is a very positive vote in favour of the NHS  so lets hope the politicians dont decide to take it off us . I dont think the country have much faith left in Tony Blair.  So who would you put in his place when the vote comes I most definatly will not vote for Prescott.

Ok  I am a labour person because its the workers who pay the taxes  whether we earn little or a lot .I know there is a fine line between those who really need to be on benifits and those who don't, lots of people who should  cant get any but just as many who could work do get it the mind boggles.

well tough if you come here you should join our way of life if you don't like it don't come here. if its better where you came from bugger off back.
they call us racists but do we hide behind veils and turbans, do we build our own churches to preach hate do we get kids of all ages to dress up as suicide bombers. No we don't.
If i upset anyone i just don't give a dam i'm sick of they way they are trying to make us fit in with them, well it aint going to happen.
if this makes me a racist well so be it!

Well Twirlginger, don't get me started!
Actually, I've no gripes for my own treatment which has been adequate - but the way my MIL has been neglected, fobbed off, ignored, need I go on, has been absolutly criminal.
It seems as though old people (she is 91) are just put onto waiting lists in the hope that they'll die before they cost some money.  For example, she needs a second hearing aid and has been for tests but must wait another 3 months for referral to yet another consultant: she has mild dementia and is waiting to be seen to assess whether she is suitable for aricept - no time given for the length of the delay.
Having nursed my own mother through dementia I noticed when she became more confused than usual that it could often be put down to a urinary tract infection - when MIL became double confused it took 3 weeks for a sample to be taken and analysed and a further 5 days for an antibiotic to be dispensed ......  as I say, don't get me started! DB
