Hi, thought I'll start a new thread because the other was getting a bit too long! I have been working on this Steve Vai painting. The poor image which I took off the Vai Forum and this is my interpretation...... It's not quite finished yet, am waiting for it to dry more- some bits (esp the background is a bit streaky) I just love this pose because it's rather symbolic, it's declaring the importance of that guitar! I have been messing with Photoshop because I know my style of painting can be elaborated to more other expressive pieces:- That pose, it's reminds me of that girl crawling out of the well and walking towards you from the film The Ring - giving me nightmares already! I am presently painting Steve's first guitar teacher Joe Satriani - with the hope that Joe signs it at the Carling Apollo Manchester on 16th June. I bought my son a platinum ticket (£120) so that he can meet him in person before the concert. This is the painting so far.... Well that is my diary so far, will keep you all informed. Lily |

Lily you have a wonderful 'style'. I love Steves face ! Sorry I said your giraffes were like a photo, it was meant as a compliment, I know you took it as one I can see your point of view though. |

Thank you for the compliments. Iced, you are not the only one to say that the giraffes piece looks like a photograph. Every customer has said that it looks like a photo and want to buy it! So I don't know if it's the actual composition or the fact that it looks like a photo. What I have learnt from it, is that I can paint photo realism and it's saleable! Another challenge to look forward in my old age. Lily |

Keep us posted about Satriani's concert Lily. Will you give him your painting or get it autographed? |

Thank goodness you have spelt his name right this time, Iced. You know what their fans are like! Yes I will be giving this painting to my son to show him and hopefully get it signed. I can only go to concerts on Mondays or Tuesdays and the Zappa one where Steve is playing is on a Thursday and the Joe one is on a Friday. My son and I went to see Eric Clapton last week at the Manchester Arena, he was visually boring and I can only remember ONE song out of the whole night! Am not musically gifted! The visual excitement of the night was................... I was intrigued when they laid out a rug about 6ft square for Eric to stand on while performing!!!! When Steve performed at the Apollo, they had cooling fans blowing at his body to make his hair flow with the breeze! Makes me want to dwell on the idea that IF I was to perform (maybe paint a picture in public) what will I do to make myself unique! Keep dreaming Lily! Lily |

I can sense, that there is an excitement in the air here. Painting and then meeting the infamous individuals you have just painted, must be very exciting for you Lily. To have the opportunity to meet them alone, would be incredibly exciting. To paint them to accurately and then meet them, even for a few seconds, would be incredibly exciting. By the way, these longtime International Stars, with the incredible amounts of money they make, doesnt surprise me, that Elton John, has his own piece of carpet to sing from. In that business, there is also alot of superstition. Anyone of them have felt they performed so much better, even from a specific piece of carpet. It is their desire, to satisfy the crowd, in the many locations they perform, over a period of time. Not only do they love what they do in most cases, but the amount of desire in so many parts of the world, that they perform there, is totally incredible. That I feel, is one of the reasons they only do so many concerts a year, and or charge as much as they do. I think they call it "popularity." lol I also think, that after a period of time, realizing that the end of their career may be coming soon, they will do what ever they can, to allow it to continue. That my dear is habit. Not wishing to wake up the next morning, knowing for sure, that there isnt a bus or a limo, coming to pick them up, to travel to another city to perform. Many will go to their last breath, only for the love they have, of their fans appreciation. Here I am getting carried away. lol I say go for it Lily, while you have the opportunity, and you know what? "You never know" just what might take place. You just never know for sure do ya? |

I am glad I spelt it correctly too Lily lol. How cool is that to see him playing with flowing hair, I love effects like that. I am not really an Eric Clapton fan so I will have to agree with you about the best part of the night being the laying of the carpet rofl. Now there is an idea. Lily painting in the streets with a wind machine blowing her hair ! Go for it Lily. |

Here is an update on my Joe Satriani painting. The photo is very dark and I have only just (5 mins ago when I took this pic) toned down the stage lights because after careful thought, I think the glaring effort is made by the camera lens. Now I have to tone down the glare (star shapes) on the guitar. In fact, I have had to tone down this glaring to make certain parts sit in persepctive! I will post finished painting onto my Album. Right, I am off to bed because I need to get up early and put the strings on the guitar AND correct mistakes - they are standing out like sore thumbs - in my eyes! I have got to make sure paint is dry enough for Thursday, am taking it also to show Steve Vai, who respects Joe very much. Lily |

My friend, from my experience, I wouldn't say that it is the camera lens that is causing the glare. More than likely, it is the bright lighting, so everyone can see the entertainer. This painting is excellent Lily. Hope you can get him to sign it. Now, that "would" be kewlio. |

Well, it's goodbye to the Zebra subject, I suddenly want to paint this cheetah, just spent a couple of hours filling in, trying to cover the original mess - I have made full use of the orange already on this 4ft canvas so here it is so far. I need to paint in the base colour to show the form of this cheetah, then work on the spots last, also paint the details in the background. It looks most impressive because of it's size, painting is not as dark as this. I will post finished piece in my Album. Lily - always keeping you all well informed! |
