This evening here in Vancouver Canada, I watched two films that were created from true stories. Some of you may have seen either or both, but if you haven't would be a great idea to rent them.

"Fire In The Sky" A story of a young man that was abducted by an alien ship. His trauma and experience as well as those that were present is expressed so well. How the men were not accepted by those in the little town in California, until they had, with the desire of an investigator, to take lie detector tests. Great film to rent.

"October Skys" A film about a young man living in a coal town in Virginia. His father was one of the head men in the mine, but it was so hard for him to not see his son wishing to fall in line after him. His son after seeing the "Sputnik" fly through the night sky, wanted to change the string and become a rocket scientist, to the dismay of his father. The story shows as well, how the young mans teacher in the little town school encouraged him, to make a new path for himself, rather than become a coal miner. Now this is a fantastic story. Brought tears to my eyes at the end. A great story of achievement in American history.

I hope you enjoy them both

i have seen October Skies 2ce now and i could watch it again. talk about a great inspirational movie. i loved it. i used to work underground in a mine and i could really relate to what the young guy was feeling as he'd disappear into the earth and the last thing he'd see was the stars. a great movie. i couldn't stand Fire in the Sky. usually i like this type of movie but this movie was almost too much for me to sit through. i still don't get why aliens would have such a dirty slimy icky and run down craft. any old re-run of the x-files could put this movie to shame. still, as i have no cable, it was better then not watching anything at all.

I haven't see either film but they sound really interesting. I am a sucker of a good film. Still, my idea of a good film is "Pretty Woman" [which I recently bought] so my taste is pretty different to the films you were writing about. Still, I think I will check out those films. Thanx for the tip!
