I love reading, so it is often I read the books to what later become films. This is one of those cases. Films are never as good as the books but in this case I am happy to say it was close enough. They managed to keep the main plot line without skipping too much out, on the whole I would say they mainly kept the main details of the story and skipped the bits they could get away with. Many times after reading "The Northern Lights" I wondered how they would turn it into a film. Personally I think the film should have stretched over 3 hours, but I wasn't at all disappointed and I ended up seeing it twice. I would have liked it even more if it was closer to the book, but I am sure the money made from this one will allow them to do even better for the sequel.
Had I not read the book I would have probably given this film a 9 out of 10. Having read the book first I am dropping it to just 8. Opposed to Eragon which to me was a five star book but shoot the producer film.
