Indian figs or prickly pear
this is a pic taken by me here but the biggest cultivations of them are in south of Italy, most in Sicily.
They can be orange, green or red and when are ripe they are sweetie and refreshing too if eaten ice cold.
The problem are the prickles of these fruit, very small but annoying if you got them under the skin. So there is a method to hold them by a hand to open by the other using a knife. I'm not so expert so I use fork and knife to don't touch them outside.
They do an excellent icecream by them as jams too. In Sicily they even use the large leaves to cook, of course without prickles but I had never eat them.
Ciao
