I've posted this from Art and Culture cos I think everyone here should be aware - I know we've had jokes about this before, but this time it does seem to be happening, as of next year.
=========
Some of you know that I have an msn group, Wit, Sarcasam and Artistic Musings... commonly referred to as WSAM... Along with our paper, Key Note News, we span 4 msn groups. Consequently, I keep up with what is going on with msn.
Last july, they closed us down for 'Administrative Purposes' for a cartoon on The Wall of Shame. The cartoon was a line drawing and showed a woman's bottom. It was made by one of our graphics artists and was poking fun at the group. It was in no way offensive. (The lady is a retired school teacher)
I was offline at the time with computer problems and was unaware of the situation, until the last minute. Just hours from permanent deletion, my asst. mgr and right hand in WSAM (Jen aka NeverComingHome) sweet talked them into letting us have it back, with the provision, that we remove The Wall of Shame.
We're rated Mature, but a group can be shut down for a smiley 'moon'. There was a thread in here awhile back that discussed that... Betel, you put no credence in it saying that the Mature rating protected AC, but I've seen 2 mature groups shut down for those moons.. I don't trust msn to be consistent and even though, they say they will give you a warning... they didn't give WSAM a warning.
I came face to face with the possibility, of losing something I had spent a great deal of time creating and online friends being scattered... all on the whim of MSN.
So I bought a domain and set up a forum. Started transferring content to that location. (Still doing it... a lot of stuff there)
For some time now, there have been rumors of msn closing their groups. Today Jen posted a letter from MSN in Italy, confirming that groups will close on February 21, 2009. If you are interested, here is the thread:
I'm taking this seriously and hoping I'm wrong ... Without a doubt, MSN has the best format for groups on the web. Truly saddened by this turn of events, but all of you know ... that nothing is permanent on the internet..
Art and Culture was one of the first groups I was ever a member in and despite the differences encountered here, would not like to see this group of people scattered. Truth be told, I rather miss CD and the set to with Pan, hurt my feelings more than made me mad.
There are a lot of places on the web, which will give you a group format. Just google.
AND
There are 3 options listed at the link above. I checked them and wasn't impressed.
Perhaps you will feel differently.
I'm pretty certain this will be thrown back in my face, but anyway here's an offer...
I have room on my domain for Art and Culture. If it's something you are interested in, I would set up boards specifically for you and instruct my members accordingly. There would be no strings on your section and management could run it as they saw fit with no input from me. I'm seldom in any of my groups or the forum, anymore. Real life has kicked me where it hurts... in the wallet.
Didn't post a link to the forum... This isn't a membership drive and if you aren't interested, what's the point..
Whatever you decide... I should like to remain a member. Good luck in whatever direction (if any) you decide to go.
