Hi, look, I went out into the garden this morning in the pouring rain and picked a few of my Victoria plums.  Still a bit under ripe so they are fairly hard and sour.  Guess what I am going to do with these, I am going to rinse them in boiling water for a few seconds, let them cool down and then pickled them in vinager and salt.  They have to be hard so they come out firm after pickling, soft ripe ones are no good because they become a mush when you bite into them.

I love watching my hubby cringe when I munched a pickled plum, still got a jar left from last year and I will have loads this year, got three fruiting trees to pick.            Lily

Eat one now and again and it aids digestion, helps to rid the body of impurities.  I am going to pickle some in vinager and sugar, in brine too.  An old lady of a friend - about 98 years old now makes drinks - boiling water with lime preserved in salt.  I have got preserved lemons, lime and kumquats that are a few years old, gone very dark and I too add boiling water to make a drink.

I believe that one needs to flush out these impurities in our intestines especially when one is middle aged because our digestion is not as robust as a younger persons.  We also supplement with our herbal stuff, in teas and soups.  If we did not rid such impurities often, one usually feel the symptons like, constipation, or very very hard stools, a white furry tongue, icicles forming at the corner of our eyes - when we wake up, even migraines etc.  Eh by gum, I am turning into a doctor here........... Hi Mimidot, I love herbal rememdies, I know people are saying YUCK but most 'medicines' aren't nice.  Yesterday, I picked a few pounds for my hubby to dish out to the ladies at the Chinese gorcery.  I am sure a little gift like this will brighten their working day.  All my fruits and vegetables are organic.

Your ornimental grasses - I don't know much about them, it's a challenge just to maintain a lawn!  The best lawn in our neighbourhood - this man cuts it at least once a week, twice in July this year besides watering, watering at other times when its a little dry and constantly feeds it.  He even cuts it when the ground is wet and I have seen him using a roller on it.  The little plot is only about 10sq yards and the attention it gets is beyond belief!         Lily

Do you ever make jam with them, I have never made plum jam with them so unripe, so I should imagine you would use more sugar.
