Here is a tutorial for watermarking your images to deter others from using your photographs on the web.
I have used Paint Shop Pro version 7. and I am assuming that you have a basic knowledge of where to find the tools in the program.
Open a new image 300 x 300 pixels and make sure the background is set to White. Now go to the Preset Shapes tool and choose a rectangle shape. Set the line width to 15, the Line Style to 1# Solid and make sure that the boxes Antialias and Create as Vector are checked.
Draw a rectangle the size you require. Then go to Layer and Convert to Raster Layer.
Now go to the text tool and choose a font and create your Logo. If you are entering more than one line of text make sure you convert them to a raster layer. When you're finished select Merge, Merge Visible. Your Logo should look like the one below.
Now using the Magic Wand tool click on the area outside of the rectangle. Then click on Selections, then click on Invert to select the rectangle .Then we need to emboss it, so now go to Effects, Texture Effects, Emboss. This will produce the image shown below.
Leave the marching ant lines active and open the picture that you want to watermark. Now make the watermark image the active window and go to Edit, Copy.
Move to your picture window and go to Edit, Paste, Paste as New Layer. You should have something similar to the image below.
Now open the Layer palette. Select the Layer that contains the watermark and click on the word Normal to open the Blend modes panel. There are 3 blend modes that give good effects and they are, Overlay, Soft Light and Hard Light. I have used Soft Light on mine and produced the image shown below.
You can move the watermark anywhere on the picture and the Logo will remain transparent. You can also use the Opacity slider in the Layers Palette to reduce the intensity of the watermark. Once you are satisfied with it, flatten the layers by going to Layer, Merge, Merge All Flatten.
And thats it !
If anyone needs any help in using this watermarking tutorial just leave me a message and I will be happy to help
