This bird is The Ruffled Grouse.
I was debating to either shot it with my camera or shoot it for the pot. ahh She was to pretty for the pot. This one is a female that came to my cabin to eat the dog berries on the tree,
( I live in a wooded area of different sorts of trees Spruce.. Pine.. Birch.. Juniper..Fir.with ) rivers and hills,
I talked with her in not to fly away and I promise I would not eat her, She modeled for me about 20 mins. I continue to ...make sounds much like her own. You have to walk very softly, They are very wild and fast to take flight /In winter they dive in deep snow to hide from wild animals. This was at night,so had to use flash .These pictures were taken about 10 feet away from her They are very good to eat , Makes a great pot of soup. or stuffed and baked in the oven ,Oh the gravey! .Can be pan fried as well. The feathers we use for crafts, the tail often used for a dust cleaner or if at cabin no broom. would make a great sweeper, Makes pillows. On dreamcatchers , quills. decorations on head pieces hats clothes.. Mask Many many things we make from the feathers. We waste nothing.. Ready to take flight .Belly full

Lab, I can understand the feelings you might have in your living conditions, as well as your tradition, as to photographing or having it for dinner. Understandably with your traditions, you use every scrap of an animal or bird, to enhance your living conditions. We look forward to more of your photographs Lab |

Although you no longer live in Igloo's, do you have any photographs of such, or the process of constructing one? Photographs of the ice in your neighborhood. Do you have any photographic abstracts. I hope to soon be posting on here as well. Am just learning the processes of my Digital SLR. GO FER IT LAB! |

Hi LAB,Welcome to our site.IE-crazy gang. I did reply elsewhere about your pic's. They are good and interesting, But, and it's a big BUT. they would look nicer on a plate, with a side salad and a gravy or a sauce poured over it. The duck, or qail, that is.LOL. It look's like a great place to get the camera out. Feel free to look around.........

BOB, Thanks alot,I did read your reply & certainly got a great chuckle. Most game I come in contact with out here I usually shoot for food on my plate or for the elderly or sick that cannot hunt or fish .Birds are plenty here.I remember last year in three days I shot 500 white partridges,I plucked some for baking & others what I didn't give away I bottled ,I was at my cabin slurpping partridge soup glancing up seen about 30 partridges looking at me through the window, Snow was piled high from drifts , I felt so quilty I had to take my bowl & sit in the the pantry . I said to ,myself."Self watch..... it your mellowing' People say where ever I go , critters follow me.That I have a way with them, The elders think I have a gift, Maybe I do,Sounds like the Jungle book .....Ha .....I have a beautiful orchastra here on my land, such a harmony of sweet Melodies .....sound to behold. The Good Lord has blesssed me with my own iintertainment . Sometimes when I take my guitar out sit by the river and heave out a few tunes,You otta see the critters gather around,....No kidding , I'm sure I seen a couple squirrels doing the two step
Thank you for the welcome Bob .

Lab, you shot 500 white Partridges for your survival as well as those close? That's an incredible number! It would appear that you truly do, have a gift, if the local animals and birds, love to surround you with your guitar in hand, belting out a few numbers. Looks like you have a reputation with the Squirrels too. lol Wish I could still hear the birds sing in our area once again. Even in the Spring it is undauntingly quiet. I wonder how many of the species have either disappeared or just dont like the pollution that raves from our local area now. What a bummer eh? Please show and tell us more. Many of us, are not aware of what one in your situation does to keep ones self sustained. Yes more please Lab |

Thank you Frmear. Ha yes I do have a way with the squirrrels too Some wild squirrels I actually tamed.as I did not want then to eat my cabin so instead I feed them and talk with them,so now they become very protected of this territory ,there fore when new squirrles comes poking about ....they get jealous and run them off the land HA! It is sad you cannot hear the birds sing.such music in the air.Could be the pollution,& could have moved on instead, It was only yesterday I was sitting here at my desk sipping my good ole Tetley Tea looking out through the window when this beautiful bird sat ona branch watching me,The bird ever so red,What a beauty.I have never seen one like this before, New birds are here, But where did they come from, Maybe some flew over with all the storms from USA even west Canada .It flew in my window & perched on my lamp.I really sized it up.I managed to pick it up in my hands and did not struggle at all, actually seemed rather content,Had no fear . I sent it backout side any ways But not thinking never took a photograph ....stunn Me!I have to look up this little bird on the internet, Meet Doodies! Ha

Thank you Gem .. Yes I do have good cameras and lenses , But the truth of matter is I can actually get the critters to stay put , Just talk to them, They are wild ,But I guess I have a gift with animals. There are not many people do with wild animals, or critters of the forest , I guess it is a gift from God,The squirrel is a cutie , very intelligent, She eats out of my hand and do not mind me rubbing her head, I have two here,,others do come But now Little one know her food is here and protects her territory so chases the others away , which was my plan on taming her as I do not want many squirrels around ,They will eat your cabin Ha I started another message board in here for my cabin, and wow it went in cyber world,,Must be MSN thingy again, thrid three times, can be frustrating, Hopefully I will get to post some by tomorrow .
