The Winter we normally experience here on the West Coast of Canada, is warm in comparison to most locations in the northern hemisphere. This Winter, has been dramatically different. Yesterday we experienced the 14th windstorm, toppling young and aged trees all over the Lower Mainland. Yesterday it has been said, that there was little or no wind, and within a very short period of time, it kicked up to what was recorded at Vancouver International Airport as 100 Klms. The jewel of Vancouver, Stanley Park, has been very dramatically hit once again, to the point where there are areas that could appear to be clear cut logging patches. It has been closed once again to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. A woman jogging in the park, as the storm began, was hit by a falling tree. Hundreds of homes in our local area, have been crushed by trees not withstanding this great force. Like I mentioned, this is the 14th windstorm to hit us since the beginning of December. Upon the windstorm stopping, then the snow began. We normally get one snowstorm per Winter, and it melts within 24 hours. We are now experiencing the 3rd fall of snow, not melting, but to be followed by clear skies, but very low temperatures beginning tonight and lasting as has been forcasted 3 days. It snowed last night about 2 cms as forcasted, then began a little this morning, and is again as I compose this article. Personally I do like snow, it's untouched sparkling appearance, but it does have it's place, and unfortunately it is not in the city. This is not normal for our area. Considering as I understand it in The Netherlands, where flowers are blooming and raspberries are growing on their bushes. On the east coast of the USA, ppl are sunbathing in temperatures of 70 degrees, where they would normally be suffering very low temperatures, a great deal of snow and ice. It would almost appear, that we here on the West Coast, are receiving everyone else's Winter weather. If you wish, please have a look at the links I have left, including one of the restoration of Stanley Park. There is a local billionaire by the name of Jimmy Pattison, that has expressed, he will donate dollar for dollar donations up to one million dollars. There is a number on the link, if you feel you wish to help. Any amount is acceptable. Let us hope that this dramatic weather will soon come to an end, and we can begin to enjoy our normal weather. I also hope that the area that you live in, is not being hit by unusually dramatic Winter weather. Your comments are most welcome. |

Another victim of so many windstorms, is the closure of BC Place. Apparently with such high winds, a large hole has been ripped into the vinyl roof of our very treasured stadium. The roof is help up only by air pressure, and has had to be slowly deflated, while the hole is repaired. You may read from the link I have left. Spring will be welcomed with open arms here on the West Coast of Canada. |

Think the weather's kind of confused everywhere Smilie. It's been so warm here that trees are starting to bud!

Have a look at the photos in the link of, some of the damage done in Stanley Park by many of the windstorms we have experienced since the middle of December of last year. The second link involves the Premier of our Province viewing the damage and his views. These events truly have been quite devastating for us all here, seeing our "Crown Jewel" being blown the heck out of, if I may. It truly is so very sad. |

More unheard of shall I say weather tonight. Normally it snows here maybe once a Winter. Tonight they are forcasting 5-10 cms of snow. Can't remember if that is the third or fourth snowfall we have experienced since the beginning of December. So this evening I can watch the Zoo outside my livingroom window once again, as those that, for some unknown reason, figure that bald tires or not placing Seasonal Radials upon their vehicle will move them easily through fallen snow. Yes I know it sounds silly, but that is how ppl think for some reason. Spose if you learn to live in it, would make a large reason to understand it more. Oh and I understand that in LA it was only 2 degrees last night. That is unheard of there. There is a billion dollar fruit industry within California, that is terribly worried presently. What in God's name is next? |

And now I see that you are getting a taste of what we experienced last December. I sincerily hope that each one of you fared well. I would most sincerily wish to hear from you letting me know that everyone is well and not harmed by those terrible winds. |

Am I the only one waiting for the snow and the cold. I cannot wait for it so I can come to life, and go and get some big cod. There's only been some whiting up to now and we have had some cracking storm's. But it's not cold enough yet. Can't wait to put some pic's in, off my new digi camera. My fence is down, and my green house has had a battering, but what the heck, summer's only just round the corner. So be brave, chin's up, stiff upper lip and all that crap. It's a waiting game. bob upth north.................shivering. |
