I was watching the local news tonight and I was horrified to see a report on a disturbing craze amongst the youths in this region.

It is 'snag pussing' and it involves gangs of youths pulling of the beaks of ducks and replacing them with pegs. Not only are these birds divorced from theirnose beaks, but more upsetting many households find their clothes on the garden floor if not stolen with the pegs.

Many shops are not allowing the sell of pegs to anyone under the age of 18 and police have urged people to either not leave their clothes/ pegs unguarded or use the indoor dryer.

When I have time I will add some links.

That's sick, very sick! This is what the kids of today get a rush out of? Dont blame the police for making local residents aware of these events. Sounds like a number of young individuals need to see or get some help, professional help

A shop was raided in the Maldon area for selling pegs to under 18 year olds.

Not only that, police we're shocked to find a peg making factory in the basement.

If the home was owned by an adult, maybe someone with good legal power, should help the police, to not only put them out of business, but as well, give them a taste of what it could be like without freedom to manufacture within democracy.

THROW THE BOOK AT THEM!

And here we were raising our aims at the kids. Anything for a profit eh, no matter who or what gets hurts.

Respect the birds and animals that live in your vacinity, for the less there are, the less that they will reproduce, making Ducks a Threatened Species as well.

Nature should be respected and not abused. I guess there are some real sickos in the world. Thankfully, they are few and far in between. Let's hope the police do everything in their power to protect ducks and other wildlife.

Good post Candy Girl.  Can we all be protective of the ducks and other animals in the public parks? To let the authorities know, if we see abuse taking place is a good idea.

On the news here yesterday, it was reported, that many ppl, receiving rabbits as gifts. For what ever reason, have taken them to a local park and let them go. Many have not been spaded, so as you well know, will increase the population. As well, it was reported that someone is taking pot shots at some of them. One died as a result. Another, receiving a pellot shot in it's leg. As a result, had to have it removed, and is now a three legged rabbit.  That particular rabbit will not be replaced back into the park, but kept in safety.

As you mentioned there are some real sickos out there, thinking it is fun to shoot and injure or kill animals in their local park. The police are investigating the matter. Let's hope that the guilty party is found and prosecuted.

Yes, let us all protect the animals around us, so that they will remain, a part of the beauty that Mother Nature has so graciously given us.

I think thats very cruel. I am and never was cruel to animals Our  way of life is a different matter,
But I got to relate this TRUE story  to you,
A German soldier  came to Labrador fell in love with an Inuk girl ,Very pretty girl with long  dark hair, the prettiest blue eyes you ever saw ..Raised up on North Coast Labrador by her Grandparents, Of course after a short courtship he sked the grandma for her hand in marriage , The celebration took place in Labrador of course. well the Soldier took her back to Germany , and was on his way to work this  day  but before going to work he took his new bride to a park just out side th city limits some where . Will return for her, Well to make a long story  short, The police were called to the park. There they found a beautiful inuk girl plucking the ducks  near a stream. in the park,, The police arrested her and husband was called, He had a  hard time explaining to the police that she was Inuk and thought it was a normal thing to do as it  was  her way of  life , Ha ha . sorry But I still laugh at this story, I guess she had to change her ways....I never did ask Aunt Ulrika  if she was aloud to keep the  ducks or not .

But all jokes aside,I do not believe in cruelty in animals,I do believe these people should be punished,
