I have been looking at the 'Members' that are listed in your members section, and guess what I see???????

Well let me tell you.

First of all, you have members that haven't posted for almost longer than I've been on sites.

Example: one of the so called Managers hasn't posted since March of 2003
(granted it is probably a duplicate name, but it is also a 'Member')

On the First page alone, of the membership pages, you have 16 'members', (not counting managers) and 2 have posted at thier inception into the site, and that's the only time.
7 or 8 out of the 16 on the first page have NEVER posted. Why are they still members? I see you have over 300 members, so it makes me wonder if you are trying to keep the numbers up for some kind of 'AWARD'

I can tell you that being number one is not that uncommon, if that's what you are striving for, because at least three other groups, (that I belong to, under different sign in names) with your format are also listed as number one, with the numbers posted on thier sites, too.

So who is number one??

I have not gone beyond the first page of membership, and these statistics are so staggering, that I don't have the inclination to do so.

I think you need to 'clean out'  the shirkers. Get your Act together, Managers.

If you should delete me on this then I guess that means you are only in this for the numbers and not for the quality of the site. Which is a shame. I hope that is not the case.

I'm real disappointed.    Scorpio

I've only gone through 7 pages of membership and here are the numbers for those 7 pages.

out of 136 members
79 members have NEVER posted

That is really sad. That is more than half that have never posted.
If that is indicative of the rest of the pages then your membership is a maximum of 150 members. (that should drop your status in the ratings, I'd be willing to bet)

And that isn't even counting the ones that have not posted for 3 months.
That will cut the numbers down another 10% probably.

Maybe you should think about doing a thorough house cleaning, so you can get your actual rating sited, and start building a site worthy of you.

I may be the first you will want to get rid of, for bringing this to your attention, but you needed to be reminded, and someone has to be the underdog. So here I am.

Hi Scorpio,
Where to start ?

Of course you won't be deleted for expressing an opinion, especially as you are quite right . Yes we do have many non active members. Like you I belong to several sites and in my experience this is the norm, many join but do not post. Inow of one with 1300 members who have less 'active' members than we do.

Yes you are correct re. Managers, there are only 2 of us but for security reasons we have a second name, hence no postings.

The numbers are not being kept up for any sort of award, to the best of my knowledge there are no awards for membership numbers. Any awards that we have won are as the result of the quality of our site. Indeed recently we deleted 95 members from here, all of them were supposedly receiving mail in their boxes, and 93 had never posted. They were removed following the virus that led to replies being posted on the boards some of which contained members e mail address's. New members are given 48 hours to change their settings to read on line then their membersip is cancelled. ( 4 went this week ! )

As to the issue of who is Number One, it is as listed by MSN in the My Groups & Home Pages where sites are listed by the number of postings, not the number of members. Sadly ( see posting in General) MSN have cocked this up over the past 2 weeks.

Now we come to the issue of clearing out 'the shirkers' ( your words), bearing in mind my comments above that  these non active members do not affect our position, equally they do no harm. To delete them is an option but not one I favour at the moment. I can assure you however that the qualities of this site are foremost in my mind and should I feel that non active members actually influence this in a negative way, I will take action. At the moment however I am happy for them to stay, who knows they may read this and be spurred on to post something.

As you had two bites at the cherry so to speak Scorpio, I feel it important to point out, and my memory has just been jogged by my turning down an application to join Crazy Friends. We only accept applications from those who supply a genuine e mail address ( many don't) and who submit a message on application ( as stated in our blurb in MSN Groups).
We turn down approximately a dozen or so blank applications ever month !
Now if we were just chasing membership numbers, we would, as many other sites do, just click them in. As I pointed out before there are no prizes for having a large membership, awards and league tables are based on quality and quantity of postings, not the number of members !

Ocker is quite right, many members just do not seem to want to post. For me part of the appeal of these communities is the interactiveness that comes from posting a message and then following its replies, whether its a fun game or a more serious issue.
The trouble is you can never be sure that just because members don't post that they are not visiting and just looking.

Such is life. I suppose its like window shopping but never actually buying anything.

Also there are the members who prefer to chat and not post, they still hold the community feeling together.

I do agree with you tho Stu, I don't see much point in belonging to a community if I'm not actually seen. Being quiet and sitting in a corner doesn't ring many bells for me. I've had a lot of fun in here replying to threads and discussions, even tho I do just read poems and other threads. Erm...I guess that's a mixture of things then.

I've given up trying to get people to talk about things...if they don't want to post, they aren't gonna post, and I would think everything possible has been tried in CF.

Had Scorpio disappeared, cos it's a pity if he/she has...I like someone who has an opinion and isn't afraid to speak it!

I would like to state that any opinion held by myself is the soul property of "Dean and his Messed up Mind Inc." of Grievance Idaho.

Secondly, anyone trying to claim any of my ideas as their own are liable to huge ammounts of medieval manipulations and clog dancing.

Thirdly, if you don't like what I've got to say please send a stamped adressed envelope to Ocker - he likes that sort of thing.

And finally, without opinion we would all be supporting Man.Utd., shopping at Sainsburys and voting for "credible" political bull.

And another finally I disagree strongly with whoever it will upset the most.

So there.

Was the microphone on 'cause I,m not saying all that again - ooops sorry - shhh - yeah...

Just tying up a few loose ends here:

Jibbsy, Scorpio did leave, sadly. I agree with you, no problem with a 'ballsy' member as long as they make their points without resorting to abuse. She wrote some good poetry too.

Interesting update on the membership figures , we have now recouped all the members (numerically) that we culled. Still a majority never post, but that's a fact of life. I agree with Jibbs and Stu on this.

Our turn down rate has rocketed though, very few false e mail addies now, but some people just cannot seem to read or understand our mesage in MSN Groups, BLANK APPLICATIONS WILL BE REJECTED. This I notice is now common policy amongst many other groups........what Crazy Friends does today others do tomorrow .

We are also losing members who cannot or will not change their e mail settings, they get 48 hours notice to do so on joining, then a warning e mail saying their membership will be cancelled, yet many of them persist in ignoring this request. Some of them as you can all see become a blasted nusiance with their replying to e mails in the message boards, some of them posting other members e mail addies in their postings !

Whilst Iced and I hate cancelling memberships of those who do actualy post we will continue to do so, if only to prevent this latter infringement of others privacy.

Crazy Friends continues to grow and retains top spot in the UK groups and is currently 5th in the world, the top 4 all being PSP type sites. Long may it continue, it's down to you lot so a big thank you to all our posters and chatters.
