I think I remember being told to use wordpad, but why ??

this only happened this morning in one of my posts but has not for a long time.
i have noticed that it occurs now and then on others postings but just wonder why.
is it to do with my computer settings ?

I copy and paste stuff into Notepad and then from Notepad into these message boxes and I don't get any of these thingies <o:p>
