I just had a problem with WORD, everytime I tried to open or start a WORD document my system froze necessitating a mains shut down, with the attendant problem of a disc scan on reboot. Everything worked fine it was just WORD. I also got an error message that the system was gangerously low on resources ( which it wasn't ), clicking on this to exit a programme merely offered another programme to exit ad infinitum........or to the limit of my exceeedingly small patience with non functioning inert items.
So I rang my comp guru and he he mailed me this solution which fixed the problem, I have no idea what caused this but I share the problem & solution in case you get the same.

Solution
Click Start, Find, Files & Folders
Search for files named normal.dot in the C: drive
Delete any you find ( I did find one only and deleted it )

Now click Start, Run, Browse
Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\
Click on the Winword icon once
Click Open

The command line now appears in the Run box.
Click on the command line once with the mouse - it goes blue
Press the End key on the keyboard
now type in a space, followed by a forward slash and the letter a (e.g. " /a")
Click OK

THink this should do the trick ( It did !)

Im sure the normal.dot is the standard template for what a blank document should look like <blank, I assume>

you had many of them Ocker? someone needs lessons in using Word less often
