My screen has started freezing up. This only happens if I'm not working on pc and it can be hours or a short time of it standing idle.

I can't switch off using the button on the modem either, so I have to stamp on the plug.

Nothing else is wrong, just that.

Shall I do anything or just shout at it?

Well if its been happening a lot and you have to keep switching it off using the plug I think repeated switching off like that will cause damage to your hard drive

Have you got your screen settings set that when the pc is idle that it goes to 'sleep' ?
I don't have xp so I can't tell you where to look to check it but maybe CdB can help?

ah wait! All the settings on Power Options are set to never turn off....suggest a time please. <The longest is 5 hours.>

They must be preset as I've never set them.

I don't know how to reinstall anything. Just checking the Windows update, and doing the daily spyware check.

thanks Bee

OMG Jibbs ...are you sure our PC's arent related?  i just came in here with a problem that is driving me up the wall ...screen freeze!

There is nothing  left to do if youv left the pc for half an hour to sort itself out after its frozen and nothings changed, other than switch it off at the wall and restart. I have to do it quite often.

Damage to the hard drive? whats that? lol

It is an absalute bitch when that happens and i cant imagine its healthy to switch it off like that myself but what else can ye do?

I swear this thing is gonna die soon (at the hands of one pissed aff burd)
