I am the beginning,
   and the end.
I gave birth to life,
   the mother of all.

 

The trees are my limbs,
   reaching to the sky.
Shading my body,
   branches stretched wide.

 

The animals are my children,
   I live through them.
Their feet running,
   pounding out a rhythm.

 

I sleep in peace,
  soothed by life.
Eons pass by,
   I am eternal.

 

Searing pain,
   my flesh burns.
Wounds are opened,
   exposed to the sky.

 

Metal monsters,
   digging and gouging.
Going deeper,
   deeper into me.

 

Trees are gone,
   the sun is relentless.
Cut down,
   millions at a time.

 

My children,
   have lost the way.
They have forgotten,
   who I am.

 

I writh in pain,
  for decades and decades.
They pick at me,
  bit by bit.

 

I am dying,
   being used up.
Still they continue,
   I am being destroyed.

 

Then relief comes,
   new trees appear.
The holes in my skin,
  are cleansed and covered.

 

My children realize,
   what they have done.
Trying to right the wrongs,
   repair the damage.

 

They are young,
   and still learining
I hope it is,
   not to late.
