The basic concept which underlies all Chinese philosophy, medicine and astrology, Yin and Yang. Togethr they make up the essential life force. It is claimed that Yin and Yang are the basic principle of the whole universe. The years and months on the Chinese calendar have Yin and Yang aspects, just like the organs in the body. Yin has connotations of softness, darkness, coldness and wetness, a symbol being a mountain topped by a cloud. Yang has connotations of hardness, brightness, heat and dryness, a symbol being sun with shinning rays. Perfect health or perfect peace of mind depend on an equal balance of the Yin and Yang. Chinese astrology, in a Yin year might modify a Yang month and vice versa. A Yin months in a Yim year might presage problems, similar with Yang. |
