Tough night for me to rank them.
Top 8 Rankings:
1. Theo (9.5/10) - I think he was flat on a couple of notes but he definitely chose the "most pleasant sounding" song of the night. I'm so glad Gavin told him to down on those runs. I'd like to see him do something more uptempo without any instruments.
2. Amberly (9/10) - She really does have the most pleasant voice. It's calm, soothing and she did a good job with it. I'd like to see her do something more uptempo without any instruments.
3. Drew (8.5/10) - I can't believe this guy gets slagged about what he's wearing! I felt he sang at his best this week except on a few notes where he was sounding a bit whiny. I hope he can continue picking songs like these.
4. Earl (8/10) - Very typical solid Earl performance. One thing that I noticed is that he doesn't sing the last word of the line properly. He tends to either go off-tune or whisper the word into the mic. I like it when he just sits down with the guitar and just sings. None of that horrific dancing.
5. Mitch (7.5/10) - So he gets slammed by the judges because he's playing it safe? Then, what about Amberly, Theo, Mookie or Sebastian? They are all doing the same thing, yet, if one of them sings beautifully or "leaves the blood and guts" out on stage, they are not told to change it up. Shut up, Jake. Anyways, his performance was quite strong. I felt he lost it in the middle just before he played a solo on the guitar with the accordion/violin. He's very smart when it comes to song choices. A couple of weeks, he does some popular stuff and then he goes the indie route a few times. Unlike other contestants except Mark, he is not only playing to his heritage back in Nova Scotia, but he's also trying to draw in votes from people that are familiar with those songs.
6. Mark (7/10) - I think this song would have been better suited for him if he had just sung a cappella. Not one of his better vocal performances but at least he tried to put in some emotion in it.
7. Mookie (6.5/10) - I liked that he sang more, but I'd rather just hear him sing a slow song with only his guitar and his voice. I think the band overpowered him and he could have chosen a better song.
8. Sebastian (4/10) - I liked that he put more effort into this performance. He sang better than he's ever sung, I thought, but I still felt that he was too over the top. |
