FOUR DIFFERENT FALCONS IN ROCHESTER, NONE OF THEM M OR K! AN UNBANDED FALCON HAS BEEN HANGING OUT AT THE TOWER. IS THIS MARIAH OR SOME OTHER FALCON? STAY TUNED!
WTF? They seem to have a plethora of peregrines!

I was just checking the website there yesterday.   Did you also see where they're building some apartment complex in the parking lot where most people observe the falcons?

I saw that, but someone also suggested it would offer new perches for the eyases.

Breeze, from reading a few of the threads there, it looks as if they have an unknown female staking out the territory, and Mariah is not there. Is that right?

Jujub... that's what I gather from the stupid message boards.  But, how do they know for sure, I wonder, because Mariah isn't banded.  I'm going to do some more reading on those boards, and see what I can find.  If I find specifics, I'll be sure and pass it along.

This is from Feb. 6th...

They're sure it's a female, but can't confirm if it's Mariah.  And it also says that Kaver usually doesn't show up til March...

See answers below.  Carol P.

> Has the M&K Advisory Council, or MKAC crew, decided that this is:
> A. FEMALE - Yes, we believe she is a female due to large size.
> 1. A female PeFa? - Definitely a Peregrine.
> 2. NOT Mariah? - There are varying opinions. ;-)
> 3. A banded PeFa?  - Not banded as far as we can tell.
> 4. She's gonna create an interesting situation if:
> a. Mariah returns, - Definitely!  That's why the watchers have been
watching!  If Mariah returns, there will most certainly be a territorial
battle.  We would like to be there in case either one is injured.
> b. If Mariah DOES NOT return - Very sad, but at least we have a female
that is interested in the nest site.  Bodes well for another successful
season.
> B. MALE -
> 1.when does Kaver usually show up to claim his turf? - Last year Kaver
showed up during the first week of March.
> 2. what part does he play in this? - This all depends on whether another
male shows up before Kaver.  If so, there could be a possible territorial
battle between Kaver and that male.
> 3. Don't the males sorta stand around and let the gals decide who's
Boss?  - From what I've heard, females will usually battle females and
males will battle other males.  We witnessed this when there was an
intruding female that entered the Buffalo nest box.  While the two female
were fighting (inside the nest box), the male continued to eat lunch at
the front of the nest box like nothing was happening behind him.  Wasn't
that exciting Kimmarie?
>
> C. Where do the other three PeFas fit in???? - Well, we have the unbanded
juvie, that we assume is male due to smaller size, hunting off of the HSBC
building downtown, not very far from the tower.  Then there's the sporadic
sightings of Sabrina at the tower.  The banded adult we originally saw at
the tower flying with Sabrina has not been seen again as far as I know.

Thanks! I'm thinking if that were Mariah, all those watcher who have been tracking her for four or five years would surely be able to tell. I know she was getting older, so maybe we're going to see the beginning of a new lineage this year.

I can't wait!

And the Kodak website is temporarily unavailable. Maybe they're prepping the cameras this weekend?
