Dear Best Friends Members,
breeze 10.jpgBreeze only has to hear someone call her name and she’ll begin to prance excitedly around the yard. Twix’s bottom wiggles non-stop whenever people are around. Taffy will gladly accept a chin-scratch whenever she can get one.

Eight months ago, however, these Australian Shepherds never would have been so comfortable around people. In fact, the dogs were more likely to shut down and cower in a corner if even approached by a human being.  Taffy_Breeze.jpg

“I can’t imagine what had been done to these dogs to make them that way,?says Carolyn Mueller, who has been caring for Breeze, Twix, Taffy and four other Aussies in her Missouri home since this past spring. That's when the dogs were rescued from a puppy miller in the Midwest where they had spent their entire lives in small dark crates.
Though initially the dogs were so traumatized that they could not stand or walk, they have undergone tremendous changes thanks to the loving, patient care doled out by Carolyn and her husband. They learned to trust people, learned to play, and began becoming "adoptable" dogs at last.
A few of the dogs are already in new homes, but Carolyn is still looking for families to adopt five of them: Taffy, Snickers, Breeze, Twizzler and Twix.

Snickers.jpg“We really need more foster or permanent homes so that each of these wonderful dogs can get the attention they deserve,?nbsp;Carolyn says.
If you know anyone who could provide a loving home for one of these dogs, please contact Carolyn directly at You can also help these beautiful Aussies by forwarding this email to anyone you know who loves dogs.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide - and thank you as always for being there for animals in need.

Yesterday we had a day people could bring their pets to the mall to get pics with Santa. Oh - they were sooooooo sweet! I fell in love with a White Lab! We took our golden retriever up there and got a beautiful family picture!

The good news for me is that more and more I'm hearing about laws being passed that elevate animals to a level of importance they've never had in this country, giving them more rights and holding abusers more accountable (prison time instead of a piddly fine), and I couldn't be happier about the direction we're finally heading, however slowly we've arrived here.
I can't wait until we can get all puppy mills shut down!!
