I was telling my son the parable of the Pharisee(spelling) and the Publican. To refresh your memory or tell you the story if you haven't heard it: The Pharisees were annoyed with Jesus and didn't want him to associate with "sinners." He told them a story of two men who went to church to pray. The Pharisee stood up and prayed loudly and boastfully. He said something like, "Thank God I am not like that Publican. Thank God I am not a sinner like that." And the Publican bowed himself down and prayed and cried. He asked for forgiveness of his sins. He was humble and not in the least bit boastful.
And Jesus asked whose prayer do you think God answered. And the people said the Publican. This of course did not make the Pharisees happy.
So I asked my son if he could tell me what the story meant, what did Jesus want us to learn.
Without missing a beat he replied, "Don't pray too loud!'
I had a good chuckle and then I tried to explain it to him better... LOL
And I may not have told the story exactly right but I think it's close.
