I have no doubt that Barry Ferguson does not want to leave Rangers. But neither did Allan Hutton this time last year. If Rangers were to receive a decent bid for Ferguson from Newcastle or anybody else, I think they could be tempted to accept and then leave it to the player again.

What price would you think would be the trigger for Rangers to say "Ok, now we're talking" ?

Rangers would be mad to sell Fergie! He is a very integral part of our club both on and off the field and by selling him at any price we may as well just give up the league.

I've been a huge Ferguson fan for almost his entire Rangers career. Unfortunately however I am beginning to believe that he is having a detrimental effect on both the team on the park and dressing room attitude off the park.

On the playing side, for the moment anyway, pending full fitness , he is a shadow of the player he was a few years ago. Certainly Rangers were playing better and looking more balanced before his return to the team. It would have been very interesting to see what would have happened in Kevin Thomson's injury hadn't provided a convenient slot in the side.

Off the park he has struggled to regain the fan's trust after leaving the first time then being a significant negative force during the PLG debacle. I know PLG had many faults and deficiencies but in my opinion Ferguson's behaviour was appalling during that time. He can spin it any way he wants in his book but the fact is, admitted by himself, that he refused to play in the position PLG requested him to. The fact that PLG did not have the strength to deal with this does not excuse Ferguson's own behaviour.

His captaincy style is also to be called into question, he tries to rule by fear and anger rather than by direction and encouragement. When the team is struggling he does not have the composure to realise that he cannot do it all himself and that his 'ma baw' approach actually makes things worse.

All in all I'd sell for any bid over £3m. Is it realsitic to expect such a bid? Many would debate this but given the OTT prices of the premiership and his remaining reputation such a bid is certainly possible. If Rangers could be trusted to reinvest this money on, say, a quality winger then the team would be improved imho.

Looks like Fergie is for the off after all. Putting financial aspects aside I reckon this could be a good idea as long as a winger/wide attacking midfield player is purchased before the window closes. Davis, Mendes, Thomson & Edu provide sufficient options for centre midfield with three of them having young legs capable of providing the drive we need.

The question is, as Nessie raised on another thread, is it coincidence that Boyd and Ferguson are both pushed out the door at the same time? Not for me, I think that Walter & Ally have realised that Ferguson's influence on the team & dressing room is actually negative and have decided to root out the source of previous and possibly current unrest.
