I have vowed to quit this nasty habit on Christmas day…I am now down to about 4-5 times a day, ultra lights, and I only smoke half before throwing it away.

I heard there were these fake ciggies you can buy from Walgreen’s…Is this something you would recommend?

I just now found your site, so my apologies if you have addressed this somewhere on your web page.

Bill

Hello Bill.   I don't mean to make light of your question but you're looking for a crutch and attempting to wean yourself off of nicotine.  I'll leave you with a couple of links to read but I do hope you'll reflect upon the fact that it only a maximun of 72 hours for all nicotine and 90% of the chemicals it breaks down into (metabolites) to exit your body.   If you end all nicotine it's an absolute truth as nicotine's half-life in human blood serum is just two-hours.

It's then that your brain has no choice but to become nicotine free and begin the process of restoring natural neuronal sensitivities.  I admire anyone who is so disciplined that they can gradually reduce their nicotine intake over time and eventually quit as it takes for more time, energy and sustained motivation.

Were with you in spirit, Bill.   Baby steps, just one hour, challenge and day at a time.  Yes you can!

Hello Bill:

I am not sure what happened here but I wrote a response to you and it somehow didn't get posted.

I recommended the same two posts John referred to above, Crutches and  Quitting by gradual withdrawal.

I also suggested the post Setting Quit Dates.

The other thing I wanted to comment on was your inquiry about getting a fake cigarette.

I used to have clinic participants who would want to carry a plastic cigarette, no inhaling or real health risks. But they kept seeing this object as a companion or remembrance of a long lost friend. Cigarettes were not a friend and should not be immortalized or put on a pedestal.

Read the post "My cigarette, my friend".

Bill, these posts will get you started, but there is a whole lot more material to read and learn at www.whyquit.com and at the Freedom site. Learn as much as you can and you will soon realize that the way to really succeed this time is to just make and stick to a personal commitment to never take another puff.

Joel

Hi Bill and welcome.

What an awesome decision you have made and I want to wish you all the luck but that really is not what it takes. Looks like you just found the site and it is my hope you just keep reading because you will see that it really just takes a committment to NTAP......I will let you go find out what that means.

You are in good hands with Joel and John but if I may, I will add that as a recent quitter, you can do this. I was a 27 year smoker that had tried everything "man made" to make quitting easier and I failed every time. Today, I can not imagine what would be worth ever smoking again and in fact, I see it as a life decision. It was not always easy but once I had read "most" of this site, the worst days were easier than the thought of aother day being controlled by nicotine.

No fake ciggies, patchs, gum, etc. Its all about an educated quit and a commitment to NTAP!

Tom - Free and Healing for Three Months, Twenty Seven Days, 21 Hours and 16 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 24 Days and 18 Hours, by avoiding the use of 7133 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $1,290.27.
