Bill,
You are asking your question under the false assumption that you smoke out of habit and that you can satisfy that habitual action of smoking by replacing your tobacco cigarettes with "fake" ones.  It will not work.  It will not work because you don't smoke cigarettes out of habit, you smoke cigarettes for the nicotine they contain.  You will quickly grow frustrated with sucking on a paper tube that is filled with herbs or whatever replacement is in these fake cigarettes that you intend to buy.  You will become frustrated because you are expecting the withdrawl relief you get from smoking tobacco and it will not be there.  The only relief from nicotine withdrawl comes from taking more nicotine, or preferably, taking no nicotine at all.  The problem with crutches is we become mentally dependant upon them to remain nicotine free.  We don't need anything to remain nicotine free except to decide that we don't want it any more.

You can live without any nicotine in your system at all.  You don't have to wait until Christmas day to quit, you can quit right now.  Quitting is not dependant upon any day, any circumstance, support from any other person or lack thereof.  Quitting is dependant upon you making up your mind that you want control of your life back from the drug to which you surrendered it when you took your first puff.   Make your last puff your last puff and you will never regret it.

Whatever discomfort you may face when you first quit is nothing compared to the pains of continuing to smoke tobacco for the nicotine it contains.  If quitting for Christmas was intended to be a Christmas present to yourself, then get your shopping done early - Quit NOW.
