Hi everyone,
Well, I finally went to see Fig with my husband yesterday. He is absolutely beautiful. He is not small at all, his pictures do not do him any justice at all. In fact, he look large to me.
We did not hold him of course, 1st visit and all. He was on his play pen and came right down to see us, which I guess is a first for him as he doesnt do this often. He talks very well and I guess he sings. He appears to be very well manner and taken care . He eats Harrison and Zupreem (no color kind) and fruits/vegs. He shakes hands and he let us do this without trying to bite us. He let his owner touch him, rug his beak and neck but she didnt feel comfortable with us there hangin on him. Overall I think it went well. The owner I could see was getting very emotional over this. She says she can let go but I don't know. She hand fed him and cradled him to sleep when he was a baby.
She is only giving him up she says because she does not have time to play with him. She just had her 3rd baby and the other two kids are 3 and 6. I think she is totally nuts and I told her she should really reconsider. As much as she loves him and well behaved he is she may be sorry she gave him up. If need be I am sure if I were to get him and she was that upset over it I would probably give him back. I know this is controversal but I do in my heart feel she truly loves and wants to keep Fig. So sad. She is so torned over this.
(sorry so long)
Anyways, I am suppose to talk to her again on Thurs to set a time to get him - we were thinking Sunday afternoon. She doesn't feel we need to see him again as she said she could tell my husband and I are very good people and would take care of him. (Didn't hurt that I know her mother for years and worked with her)
So, if I get him Sunday nite I will be back for alot of help. For some reason I am somewhat scared of being bit by him and intimated. I had to work with Clouseau and Elvis so not sure why I am feeling this way but I am so I will need to work thru this. I am so excited!!! What shall I teach him to sing first??
Here is a tip for everyone , she puts a shower curtain under her cage and the she cleans up the poop and sweeps the rest! I thought it was a great idea. I use the plastic liners around the cage myself. Thanks for listening and I will be back of course!

Congratulations --sounds like it might be a good match. If you are going to get him on Sunday could you get him in the morning--just so he has time to settle in to his new surroundings==also try to find out a bit about his time schedule now--what time to bed etc and try to match it closely for the first little while--you can always get him on to your schedule later to. How old is he and what kind ?? |

Hi, Sunday morning is not good for me. We are camping and coming home on Sunday. She is bringing him over in the afternoon. We can spend time with him then and in the evening. My husband has Monday and Friday off so this works out well. My youngest daughter coming home from college on Tues so she will be home too.
She is hoping that he will be come friendly and be able to hold him. Do you think we should try with gloves on or just use a dowel like we did when we got Clouseau(grey). This is how we worked with Clouseau.
He is 15 and a yellow head amazon.

Patti no gloves and if you don't think by checking his eyes and stance that he'd rather you didn't touch... then don't touch... The good thing is with quite a few different people, ages, sexes he'll be able to make choices even though it will all be strange he'll be very observant. I didn't think the day would come for his owner to finally say goodbye... it will be hard on her Patti and hard on the two kids.. Patti I'm not giving any suggestions other than the don't wear gloves and find out first if there are certain sticks that he fears!! Too2 |

From what I've heard and read, gloves can really freak them out. I know they sure do mine! I used to have a little lovebird who would make hamburger out of my knuckles once she was old enough to lay eggs. I tried using gloves to clean her cage, and she went nuts! I had to take them off as I was afraid she was going to really hurt herself as she was thrashing her wings and hitting the sides of the cage, etc. More experienced members will be along to give you some suggestions I'm sure. I'm really looking forward to hearing all about him once he is home with you, Patti. Abby |

I think the dowel would work better too. I wont scare him and try different things. As far as she goes and finally doing this... it remains to be seen I agree. 2 yrs ago you remember it came down to the day - day before Easter and she called crying she couldn't do it. So we will see. She is calling Thurs nite to confirm our plans on Sunday. I personally think she is out of her mind giving him up. He is wonderful and I think she will miss him more than she knows.
