Ike hasn't hit yet, but I have watched it all day and there will be devastation for so many people.
Lets pray for them.
I have a nephew and niece who work at the Galveston branch of Texas Medical Center, I feel sure they were not allowed to leave. He's in hematology and she's an ER nurse.
I also have 4 nephews and an ex-sis-in-law plus several cousins in Houston and Beaumont.
I won't hear from them whether they are OK or not. So I'll just pray for their safety.
Also we have our member, Peggy, who is just out of Corpus Christi.
Lots of folks could be hurt by this nasty Ike.
Annie

I just saw where one resident could not take her pets...she refused to leave them.... she did what was required and has left on her front lawn her information in the event she will not make it through this storm.....

Prayers and blessings for those in this storm...  may the hand of God protect and bless those that care for the welfare of others...

I also saw where two hospitals in the ?? sorry I believe it was Galveston are closed... no ER... notification on the ER door that they are closed... and have moved to some higher ground care centres.

And the many older residents who refuse to leave, the children who can't leave their elderly parents who now will ride out the storm with them... The many residents who have hurricane-burn out... who are hunkered down... and the worst thing of all is that it will be dark...
when they come ashore in the daytime it isn't nearly as bad...
Listening to winds downing trees and taking buildings and roof's off... is overwhelming in total darkness...

I wonder if this is what it was like on TV during Ivan? we had lost power so early on in the day and seventeen days later when power was returned... we never got to see what went on that day or when Ivan hit....

Work is sending me to Gulf Shores next Sat through Thursday.  I'm glad it isn't this weekend,  i saw where parts of Gulf shores are flooded with up to 2 ft of water.. scary..I have a cousin and Great aunt in San Antonio.  My cousin works in Houston at the university.  They told them not to come to work yesterday or today.
Bunches of prayers it turns out not to be as bad as it can be..I watched some videos from Cuba, some hugh buildings having as high as the 5th floor waves crashing against it.
Prayers big time from here.

I'm praying for their safety I can well imagine their horror...I helped out at a Waffle House resteurant where my cousin worked and a pregnat frind during the blizzard of '93... there were so many that walked there from the interstate clad in summer clothes , flipflopsand sleeveless shirts, etc,  ...and no coats as they were on their way to Florida...I watched as they shivered and shook, frostbite and shock...and the EMT's couldn't get out there...even the townfolk walked to there and stayed for days even, just to have food and warmth the power was out all around us, I'm thankful that we could previde for so many..it was a blessing   ... I know it can't be any less devastating for the folks in Texas... personally ,  I can't even swim   as I'm sure many can't.

What a horror--all that mess down there.

The leading edge of the tropical storm from Ike has just come to my town in southeastern Oklahoma. So far, just gentle rain but it is supposed to get worse later.
Guess what I will do about it. Yep, take a nap.
Annie
