And if you do use it, how many hours a day? If you're gone for the day do you have it set on a timer? Nan

I have ott lighting on all my birds cages. I have them set on timers to come on at 9 and go off about 1 in the afternoon. I also finally decided to get an ott light for myself:)

I use a ceiling mounted 4 tube 48" fixture in an all white birdroom.  On at 9 a.m. and off at 9 p.m. in summer and off at 8 p.m. in winter.

We have two ott-lite fixtures here.  One is  a flor lamp but sits on the corner of my desk and Twiggy and I share that one all fall, spring and winter.  We live on the far No Calif coast very near the ocean and have dark dreary foggy days.  On those days the light goes on about 9:ooAM and off about 1:00PM  Them on again about 3:00 and it stays on until I go to bed.  Twiggy goes to bed about 7:30PM.  di

Hello Nan,
I use Full Spectrum lighting at my Bird Shop. We run it around 8-10 hours. Ours isn't set on a timer. We turn it on early in the morning and off just before we close up for the evening.

I have the lighting tube mounted on the ceiling above Pookie's cage.  It is on a timer year round.  I forget the exact time it comes on (maybe 9 or 10 a.m.) and it goes off around 8 pm.

Pookie climbs back into her cage and puts herself to bed nightly at 9... but the last two weeks there have been some days when she is turning in early because it is getting darker outside earlier.  I think she knows the time change is coming.

No extra lighting here.  I put the fids in their outside cages for a couple of hours each day.  Luckily we have sunshine just about 12 months here in So. Cal. so I'm able to also open the window and let the sunlight come inside, too.  (Had to put the screens on this year because of the West Nile threat.  There have been so many deaths in LA County this summer from the virus.)
