Just wanted to post a little update on Lily (U2).

I took her out yesterday as she seemed to be in a fairly good mood and didn't have an "evil" look in her eyes, lol (sometimes she looks possessed or something). I took her straight over to the couch where the boyfriend and I were relaxing and watching some Stargate Atlantis episodes. She was almost a perfect little angel, well as much of an angel as she can be!  She wanted her snuggles, cuddles and hugs which made both of us quite happy as it is trying not being able to handle her most days as of late. Anyhow, she was awesome. She was only naughty when we would stop petting her, near the end she was getting kind of cranky and nipping, not hard, but that Cockatoo beak is pointy, and OUCH! lol. She also tried to get dad a few times when he was trying to be affectionate towards me, lol, poor guy. There is no room for him to share with Lily-kins! hehe. When we got back to her cage over an hour later, she leaped straight in, didn't try to struggle with me to get to the top of her cage or anything!

Today, however, I saw that look in her eyes. I took her out for a few minutes and gave her a big hug, but she immediately started shivering, and that means bad news when she starts that, so I told her "no hunny, don't start that", and put her back in her cage. She wasn't upset with me, at least I don't think so. She just went about her business in her cage!  (good thing about it is, I took her out when she was just sitting on her swing, not while she was pacing! yaay! positive reinforcement!)

I do think though, in the last discussion, some mentioned near the end perhaps cage aggression is the likely cause. I actually would not doubt that at all! I do have 2 copies of that wonderful book by Mattie, who knows why I didn't think to look in it!   LOL

Thanks for all of your help everyone! I will keep you updated.

CL - One proud mommy!

Hi CL!
Long time no see since Tink closed her site!
Im glad to hear you had a good day with Lily. The shivering you felt is her sexual frustration, so watch how you snuggle with her for the time being. Dont rub under her wings or stroke down her back.
Has she shown cage aggression before? Because I think she just hormonal.
If she wants out but doesnt want to be touched could you let her on a playstand and just let her play for a while? She still needs her out time. I wouldn't let her up on top of her cage though.
Mattie Sue is the best isnt she? Maybe she has some ideas on how to get her out without you losing a pound of flesh!
When she goes back to normal I would train her to step up on a perch

Hey Nan!

Hehe, I know all about the shivering, poor girl. I just wish she'd vent some of it on a toy like my Quaker did. LOL. She hasn't really shown any cage aggression until last year when she really got hormonal...but now she REFUSES to step up from off of her cage most of the time unless SHE wants to, and will bite you if you persist too long. As for letting her out, I do let her out to "play" but she just sits on top of her cage and pouts most times, or goes and destroys our blinds others (meh, they're her toy now, lol), or she'll go back in her cage and eat, then take a nap. She does get her out time, don't get me wrong, I don't keep her locked in the cage all the time! :D

She also doesn't have a playstand anymore. The one we made for her (was quite nice) broke and I sadly can't at this point in time afford to get her a new one....but I am going to get one for each of the parrots! It is one of my short term goals.

Anyways, will keep you posted on her!

CL

http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/igyms.htm This has several plans for playgyms that are pretty inexpensive to make. I hope this helps. Nan

Holy Cow Nan!!!! Thank you so much for that site!  Many ideas....will have to look into more of them, but I will probably make another one until I can purchase the ones I want!
Thanks again! CL
