Well its been 5 months now, my solomon ekkie is 11 mo old now.  Last week was a very worrisome week.  Boyboy was sick, he loves to eat and the first sign I got was him not eating.  He had also been molting so I wasn't sure if he was actually sick, but I remember always reading that once your bird appears sick they go downhill very quickly so off to the vet we went.  All kind of tests were run but we didn't have a diagnosis, so they put him on Baytril and after giving it to him for 2 days he slowly started to come back to normal.  Thankfully he is back to slinging food, showering, and talking nonstop.  But he seems to be itchy.  The vet noticed the flakey skin but there were no "bugs" so she didn't feel it needed to be treated.  I don't know if this is attributed to the molting or not.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  Oh and when we first got Boyboy his weight was 303 and when he was weighed last time he was 330.  Shouldn't be hard to put weight on him thought, he Loves to eat.

Is this considered a medical question?  If so I apologize I was only trying to get some advice on the itchies.

I wouldn't consider it a medical question, especially since you did take him to your vet to try to diagnose the problem.  There are lots of things that can cause him to act itchy, especially if he's molting.  My SI boy Shannon acts like he's got fleas sometimes, I'm surprised that he hasn't start asking me if I've got fleas since I mention that to him so much. We've got central heat/air here, and I've noticed that when the humidity is down below 50% he seems to be itchier.  If you haven't been to the Land of Vos website yet, I highly recommend it for eclectus-specific information.  Shannon doesn't seem to molt the same as my other birds, I don't see any flaky feather sheaths on him, but when he bathes in his water dish it looks filthy with all the stuff in there.  The only thing I can think of that would explain that is the difference in their feather structure, since I give Shannon showers at least once a week and he goes swimming in his water dish a couple of times in between.  Keep an eye on his weight, don't let him get too heavy.  LOV should have a weight chart somewhere on the site.  From what I've been told, eclectus carry their fat more internally so it's harder to tell if they're overweight.  I had to put Shannon on a diet (cut out most of his almonds and pine nuts) because he was getting too heavy.  They do like to eat, don't they?

Awww, I'm sorry Boyboy was sick, but so glad you took him in to the vet and he's back to his old self. As for the itchies, if your house is very dry, you might try a humidifier and/or more baths. You might ask your vet his opinion about adding a little pure Aloe to some water and spray it on him. I know many people have different opinions on this.. Personally, I have used it on occasion and it did seem to help some. Most of the time though I just use plain water. Just a couple thoughts here...
Hey, are Ekkies related to Alexandrines? Just wondering because Rica sure is a little piggie... There isn't much she won't at least try a little of. Including chairs, couches, t-shirts, towels, play gyms, etc...

Since I posted the "we are not vets" message originally, I will answer you. No, this is not a vet question because you are not asking for medication recommendations and your vet has already been consulted.

Please, everyone, don't be afraid to ask questions. I won't jump on you for simply asking about daily care. Most of everyone's questions are not vet questions, simply what do we do for dry skin,  feeding and normal daily stuff.

I have noticed that Diana ekkie is itchier too since our house humidity dropped so low. My birdroom normally stays at 65 percent and this winter it has gone as low as (I think) 35 percent. My living room dropped into the 20 % range and we are all suffering. My skin is peeling off and it hurts. I can imagine how our birds feel.

We have never had relative humidity this low, as proven by the way the fires in Oklahoma and Texas have burned up so much land and homes.

I think the humidifier is a great idea. I have a cheapie vaporizer, 9 bucks, and it is wonderful for increasing the humidity in a hurry. It has no thermostat so has to be watched and the humidity monitored. I hang signs on my birdroom doors saying "Humidifier is ON" plus I wear a timer so I can remember to check it every couple of hours. The birds must be kept out of the path of the steam because it is really hot. Mine stay caged when it is on.

I also have two cool mist ultrasonic humidifiers that put off more white dust than my birds.  I hate them. I have a new one that is good but it can't put enough moisture in the air with this extreme dryness to help much.  I think I will like it when the natural humidity is at a more normal level.

When the humidity is really low or someone is molting, I mist them with a spray bottle set on fine mist a few times a day. I don't drench them like their "baths", but just a few sprays over the top of the cage so it gently falls on them. Seems to help when the humidifier isn't doing quite enough.
