I was thinking of getting another smaller bird for my love bird to play with (if my husband and kids dont think I am nuts). Cleo just loves to be with my CAG and Citron but always needs to be watched due to size diff and all that I read that Cleo may attack them. I dont want another lovebird cause I want my Cleo to stay friendly and I read/hear that lovebirds with another lovebird will change so I was thinking of a parakeet ,linolated parakeet or parrotlett. Any suggestions or ideas. Oh, and I would definitely keep them in seperate cages.

If your lovebird is anything like my lovebird, playing with another small bird may not be a good idea.  My Razzle goes after my tiels and my linnie if he gets the chance, and he did the same thing with my parakeet, Frostine, before she died.  Maybe a parrotlet could hold his own against a lovebird, because they have feisty personalities too, but I would be very careful.  I think lovies tend to be pretty big bullies with other small birds.....
Just my own experience. Your lovie may be totally different...

thanks, he is very strong willed and always want to be with our grey and citron but they want nothing to do with him, they actually hate it when he is around so this is why I was thinking of another bird. I been reading about the linnie. THey are beautiful, was it your posting with the picture? Seems like a nice bird to have. What type would you get for your lovebird?

Yes, I have the linnie. He is an awesome bird. To be honest, I would not try to find a friend for my lovie. He would probably not get along with any other bird except another lovebird, but then he wouldnt be tame with me. So I will always just keep him by himself, and allow him to interact with me.  No interaction with other birds....thats just my opinion. Hope that helps!

I agree with Judi 100%. Every lovie I've had has been a bully, though I love those little guys. If you want another bird, get for you, not for the lovie, cause he probably won't like it anyway.

Thanks everyone, I guess I will keep Cleo seperate. Love him just the way he is and I dont want him to change except for maybe him giving me kisses some day and flying to me.
