Ok, most of you know I lost my Cleo(lovebird) back in May. Todays paper had an ad in it for a lovebird -ad reads like this:

5 yr old Lovebird w/cage/toys/food -sweet bird. $50. So, I was going to call on it. Still debating, no call made yet.

Such a hard decision - any advice on a 5 yr old lovie. Cleo was on 1 1/2 yrs old. Wonder if it is hormonal and being mean? Maybe I should just call and get the scoop!~~

I will let you all know.
Patti

Patti, if I remember correctly, I was told that the "mean" hormonal phase can last up to five years for a lovie. Theoretically, that should mean that this one is over it, but the only way to find out is to ask!

Back when Peach (lovie) was giving me trouble, Lilbit said that her Misty's nastiness lasted until she was five, and then she reverted back to being a little sweetheart.

Patti I can't think of anyone more up to keeping a little lovie in check as you.... I hope you call and it may take a lot of TLC to bring him around if he is a biter........even if he's anti social it won't take you long to straighten his little butt out.
I hope the home he finds has as much knowledge as you. (if you decide not to call and get the lowdown). Too2

So I called. Sounds like the lady just doesnt want her bird anymore.
Bird is from Petco she bought it 4 yrs ago so she says it is 4 not 5. Says it use to step up on her fingers and let her pet her but she doesnt have time for it now and when she puts her fingers in the cage it doesnt bite her just runs away.
Cage is tall round one about 4 feet high.
Red beak with green body and yellow orange feathers. I'm thinking a fischer but I have to look it up.
Price is $50 for bird and cage.
says the bird does screach some what - wonder if this is the problem? My lovie never screached loud - chirped happily though but not loud. I am want to go see the bird, but know I will be a sucker and take it.
Do I need another - how much more work is it anyways! This is what I ask myself. Need to think hard on this one as this lady is only 10 mins from my house and $50 is nothing for a bird and cage although I do have a cage already but we all know they love their own houses.

Ok, I am seriously thinking of saving this little lovie. I will think long and hard on it and with my husband. Obviously, I cant stop thinking of this little one - you dont see many people advertising selling of a love bird unless they are babies.
I will keep all informed.

Hi everyone, I have decided not to get the lovebird. After talking with my kids and husband they talked me out of it. The main reason is they know that I want a bird that will stay with me or be friendly towards me. This bird definitely will need work and honestly not sure if I will have enough time to make it friendly. My two daughters and husband like my birds too. I need them to help with the attention the birds need so if this bird is not friendly my daughters wont help (huby would though) and this poor little bird will not get the attention it needs.

Also, my parakeet (tiki) is a baby - only about 6 mos old and I am still working with him, Not sure if he will come around but he doesnt bite me which is good.

Also, they know I want a baby. So I need to be sure this is the additional bird I really want as they do live for about 15 yrs.

Patti
