We got Jack just before Thanksgiving, but this is his first Christmas here. So how many folks are getting birds this year? Nan

Wow, Too, those tiles are wonderful. I am not absolutely sure that's Murphy but I bet it is. Oh, I bet it is. I was thinking about his pic from age 5 when he didn't puff up like a toad every time the camera appeared. This is newer.
On Daphne, see the very round eye without the little triangular area in the front and back? And see the softer look about her? Much more fragile looking. And she carries her shoulders lower on her body.
Let me check thru my album and Toolady's and see if I can find both of these and bring them into one message for comparison.

Joy, all greys have red vent feathers, male and female. The difference is areas on the undertail feathers near the vent. I didn't know that til Goodbird pointed it out. I have pics of our greys to compare. I'll hunt those, too.

OK, here's the one of Murphy that is the original of the mosaic.

This is Goodbird's Phoebe. See the round head and round eye? Murphy's eyes are elliptical, (I hope that's the right word--I am tired)
Compare her head to Murphy's flat top.
Their posture makes a difference in the way their shoulders look, so Phoebe's don't look as low in this as in some other pics.
I also think females tend to be a silvery gray and the males darker.

OK, an apology. Toolady's girl is Dixie or Augusta, not Daphne. Daphne is her granddaughter.
I can't find Dixie so she may not be in an album or I overlooked it.
I can't find my Murphy "butt" pics either. I have too doggone many albums.
Maybe later, or maybe Goodbird knows where they are.

I finally found them and reduced the size a bit because they were pretty big.
Murphy first--see the grayish tinge to the edges of the underneath side of the tail feathers.

Phoebe-- hers are white on the edges.

I brought these out of my pc so they may not be here forever.

Annie,
You're really brave getting those pictures I'm not sure Beau would cooperate if I tried to do this. I think I've checked him over before but. His head is so much like Murphy's. I think i'll wait until later today though. Kinda late right now and I like to avoid bloodshed( especially my own!) Nan

Naw, I'm not brave. He was sitting on a fairly high perch. I held the camera under him, prayed he wouldn't poop on it, snapped the pic, checked it in the camera's review and then I got the heck outta there.  Some people have asked if I was standing under him. UhUh, no way.

You mean you didn't flip that big grey dude over for those pics??? Well I scoped out Beau's butt feathers and they look the same as Murphy's. Beau was DNA sexed as male so this is really a pretty good way to tell. Nan

I need to clarify something for "new to greys" people. A young bird, until his or her first complete tail molt will have the gray edges to lots of the tail feather. The first molt will grow the adult feathers in which they will likely look as GB's and my pics. There are always exceptions as there are in body color. Some greys even have red feathers sprinkled throughout their grey bodies. Wish I had one of those.

Thank you Annie. I have two other questions re young cags. At what age do they have their first moult? And what colour are their tongues. My Isaac has a mostly pink tongue with black running down either side. Will his tongue turn completely black as he gets older?

Joy  My baby Grey has a pink tongue too!  I couldn't remember when Allie was little if her tongue was pink so I'm glad you mentioned the pink tongue!  It seems to be getting darker.  She/he just turned 5mths  I feel like the worst mom in the world.  This poor baby still has no name!  Me and hubby can't agree on anything!  I call her baby and Gabby ( she is always trying to talk to me) and Mona (which I hate the name) cause she always moans when I want her to do something she doesn't want to do.  I wasn't going to get her sexed but the more everyone talks about the sex of greys I am getting so curious.  Did you find out about Isaac yet? My hubby wants to name he/she a boys name!  Hope she doesn't turn 1 and still no name!  LOL!   She has no name but sure gets alot of love!

Here is a pic of Allie which was DNA sexed as a male.  I think I see what you mean about the eyes.  But I have other pics her eyes look round!  Also she (he) I think is light in color and she wasn't large compared to the 540grams someone mentioned.  She usually was around 480-490.  I feel stupid but I can't see what you are talking about the color in the tail.  I have tons of Allies old tail feathers.  Would I see the difference in the old ones too!   As far as a young cag can you tell by their eye shape or does that kinda change too?  I only have a few of Allies pics on PC so I guess I have to dig out some old photos.

Here is another question which I can't remember when handfeeding Allie?  When do they usually reach their normalized weight?  Gosh 16yrs can do crazy things to ones memory.  I posted a pic of the new Gray before under the Grey section.  Anyone have a guess?  It is kinda hard to tell how whe is holding her shoulders since she was on a swing!

I didn't see Murphy til he was 9 months old so am not sure about the tongue color but it is solid black now. May have been when I got him. Seems like his eyes were still gray and changed soon. About a year old is when the eyes change to a creamy yellow.

Indy,
I would have guessed female, low carriage of shoulders, round top head and much more delicate appearance to her whole head. She was a beauty and I know you miss her like crazy.
I think I mentioned that one lady had two greys and I guessed wrong on both. She had already had them DNA'd and was testing me. Maybe Goodbird was in on that, too, I can't remember.
Murphy weighs 540. My cousin lives in Arizona where there are quite a few for sale and she said he's the biggest she has seen. I know there are some that weigh as much as 600 grams but I haven't actually seen them. Different sizes and slightly different coloration come out of different part of Africa.
