Hello Everyone -

So Louie is eating everything in site now that I have been mixing all types of food together and giving him fresh food each day.   I also added these greens that are treats and he just goes and finishes all his food.

I have noticed that his upper beak where his nostrils are is very dark in color now, dark blue.  Is this normal and is it from his food?

Louie appears to be getting fatter and his colors are much deeper and he looks good.
I just worry that I am doing the right thing for him.  I am very fond of him and he loves my dogs too.

Thanks
Elaine

Louie sounds like a fine little guy! That blue part of his beak is called the cere. The color is natural--on parakeets, the colorin is how you tell the sex. If it's blue, the bird is male. If brown/pink, female. It seems like you're doing a good job with him and it's good that he enjoys a variety of food. Marion

Louie's diet of seeds and veggies sounds fine, and it's great that he enjoys what you offer.  I'm not sure what you mean when you say that he loves the dogs but keep in mind that a dog can kill a tiny budgie in a heartbeat so be sure that they are kept apart at all times.

It sounds like Louie is doing very well, Elaine. I'm sure glad that he is eating such a nice variety for you.

My reaction was the same as Birdlady's about the dogs. There have been some terrible tragedies in the past where a dog suddenly decided to "play", so I'm sure hoping that they are completely separated from Louie.

Abby
