I  e need some suggestions.  My tiel  "Marques" was handfed till about 10 week three of those weeks by me and he switched to seed that my breeder gave me I tried putting pellets in but he wont touch them
I try every day giving him fresh fruit and veggies but wont touch  Hell only eat about the size of a dime a piece of the  green bok chou leaf   but only if I hold it.  He wont eat nuts even pine . Safeway ( Our supermarket) clerks laugh at me as I am buying every three days a teeny portion of a variety of nuts, vegies ( like two brussel sproutsat a time) and fruit
They always ask  does he like this yet.  And He wont eat pellets
Ive tried taking his seed dish in the early morning and replacing it with the vegies/nuts/fruit? for about two hours  but no---
I just bring the seed dish back and he chompsin it for about a half hour
When hes out for a lenght of time away from his food in the day I try again  but no
he   just ignores it  And he wont eat pellets crushed or whole
any suggestions would be helpful  Hes six months,  just a baby still
other wise hes healthy active and chewing on paper and straw baskets and all my wicker stuff . No problem there.   I even embeded some of the pellets, vegies in the wicker furniture and baskets hoping he accidently eat it  But hes smart and chews every where but there.

Anytime you switch foods it should be very slowly. If he is used to eating seed than slowly add new things to it. My cockatiels like to pick at the bottom of their cage. So I have their seed in their cups and use a paper plate on the bottom where I put romaine, grated carrots and such and I find it easier to see what they are choosing out of the fresh veggies that way.Try that and see if it works.

The Safeway part of your message is so funny although I know how frustrated you are about him.  Have you tried cornbread?  If he likes it, you can use jars of baby food like spinach, pumpkin, sweet potatoes or carrots as the liquid plus a little water if too thick and even add crushed egg shells to it.  I add thawed frozen mixed veggies to it and mine like it at times and at other times they snub it.  You can also crush pellets and add those to the cornbread.  A little trickery sometimes works.
BTW, Bok choy is way down the lists of high Vitamin A foods.  If you will type in high Vitamin A foods you will find lists of much more nutritious foods to try for him.
Usually the darker green or orange a food is, the higher the vitamin A content.  If we have to go thru all this trial and error with them, may as well get some good nutritious foods to start with.  Have you tried finely grated carrots?  I haven't had a bird who wouldn't eat them if I grated them really finely. Some do eat them chunky but all eat them if shredded.  They can go in the cornbread, too, if he eats it. Pretty tasty for us too without the eggshells.
Annie

hi,
You could try hanging some of the foods you want him to try on a kabob nnext to his favorite perch. that way he'll nibble on some of it and find the foods he likes. Annie's cornbeard idea is a good one , I've managed to grind pellets into the cornbread mix and feed them that way. Nan

One of my friends brings his 'tiel ("Tweeter") and his CAG (Rudy) over to my place on Sundays to play with my flock.  Tweeter was a seed junkie, too.  I mixed things up like boiled egg, baby food/fruit/fresh corn/apple, cooked beans, etc.,  with some of the seed that's left over from my flock's dry mix.  She spends most of her time grazing when she's here now.  It seems to help that she's not "at her home" so I suppose she's game to try new things.  She still won't eat the fresh stuff when she's at home but we're hoping that she'll eventually change that.  One of the ways I got her to try cheese was to perch her little ornery behind on my shoulder and when I put the cheese up to her she tried to bite it!  After about 3-4 meanie bites, she realized it tasted pretty good!  Fooled her!  lol.

Have you eatent this stuff in front of him?  You may get him interested if you do and make a BIG deal about how Yummy it is. Sometimes a little sacrifice (Eat those veggies you hate they're good for you too) and a little reverse psychology may get him to try them. Good luck and take your time. Louise
