Daily light on the daily path.

Devotional by Jonathan Bagster.

July 7

MORNING

Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. Matt. 4:1

In the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. Heb. 5:7-9

We have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Heb. 4:15

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. I Cor. 10:13

My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. II Cor. 12:9

EVENING

The Son of man came to give his life a ransom for many. Matt. 20:28

If the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Heb. 9:13, 14

He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter. Isa. 53:7

I lay down my life for the sheep. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. John 10:15, 18

The life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar, to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Lev. 17:11

Without shedding of blood is no remission. Heb. 9:22

While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Rom. 5:8, 9

August 25.

MORNING

Look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Isa. 51:1

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity. Psa. 51:5

None eye pitied thee, . but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the loathing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born. And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee.... Live. Ezek. 16:5, 6

He brought me up ... out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. Psa. 40:2, 3

When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom. 5:6-8

God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ. Eph. 2:4, 5

EVENING

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God. Isa. 61:10

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. Psa. 34:1-3

The LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee. Psa. 84:11, 12

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Psa. 103:1

Is any merry? let him sing psalms. James 5:13

Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things. Eph. 5:18-20

Singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col. 3:16

At midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again, I say, Rejoice. Phil. 4:4

MORNING

Whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is He. Prov. 16:20

[Abraham] staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Rom. 4:20, 21

The children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers. II Chron. 13:18

It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. Psa. 118:8, 9

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fail, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. Psa. 37:23, 24

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. Psa. 34:8, 9

 EVENING

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Psa. 4:8

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust. Psa. 91:5, 4

Even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings. Matt. 23:37

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. Psa. 121:3-5

I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Psa. 61:4

The darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. Psa. 139:12

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Rom. 8:32

MORNING

The king held out ... the golden sceptre. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. Esth. 5:2

It shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious. Exo. 22:27

We have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. I John 4:16-19

Let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Heb. 10:22

For through him we ... have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Eph. 2:18

We have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Eph. 3:12

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Heb. 4:16

 EVENING

They said, ... It is manna: for they wist not what it was. Exo. 16:15

Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh. I Tim. 3:16

The bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. John 6:33

Your fathers did eat marina in the wilderness, and are dead. John 6:49

If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. John 6:51

My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. John 6:55

The children of Israel ... gathered, some more, some less. He that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack. They gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating. Exo. 16:17, 18, 21

Take no thought, saying, What shall we eat: or, What shall we drink? Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt. 6:31-33

MORNING

The free gift is of many offences unto justiflcation. Rom. 5:16

Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isa. 1:18

I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified. Isa. 43:25, 26

I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. Isa. 44:22

God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. Rom. 5:15

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. I Cor. 6:11

EVENING

Occupy till I come. Luke 19:13

The Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Mark 13:34

Unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Matt. 25:15

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4

Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? Luke 2:49

Leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps. I Pet. 2:21

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. II Tim. 4:2

Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it. I Cor. 3:13

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. I Cor. 15:58
