Hi to all,
I love this site and absolutely adored the My First Min Pin story(and cried alot too)  One year ago I purchased my first min pin from a breeder in So. Ga..  I first saw one in a pet store that stole my heart.  I went back to get her and she was sold.  I know those arent often good places to get a puppy but I was prepared to rescue her.  After that I knew this was the breed for me.  Soon after I found Jasmine or she found me.  I'm not sure which but it was love at first sight.  She was a tiny 6lb bundle of everything that is minpin. She was an incredible and amazing young lady and she left her mark of love on me, my husband and my four children as well as her yellow lab sister and poodle mix sister.  Unfortunately we lost her on April 12, 2003.  The worst part is I take the blame.  We live on a forty acre farm in East Tenn and sometime between 7 and 8 oclock that evening my husband was mowing our front field(5 acres) and the dogs were out playing in the field(Jas never left the area of this field and our immediate yard, she never wanted to be too far from us) and when my husband came in with the other two Jas was no where to be found.  We searched for 4 hrs that evening and another 6 the next day.  Called shelters(allthough we are very isolated on our farm)called the police and everything else we could think to do.  We do have a large hawk population and they do hunt mice in our fields and I know also that we have coyote's but I cant imagine one coming so close when there is so much activity taking place.  It never even occured to me that a hawk could get Jas much less a coyote or I would never, never have let her run in the field.  I feel so terrible, like I've let her down.  Mom wasn't there when she needed her.  I miss her terribly.  So does my family. And I wish I knew what really happened.   She was my baby and we were inseperable.  Even at night in the bed much to my husbands's shagrin.  It has been almost a month and I am still crying.  I would love another min pin kid to love and have been devouring everything I can find on the web about min pins.  I have searched breeders and read articles like a woman posessed.  These are  just the greatest dogs.(and for me that is saying alot because I adore my other two girls,Lady and Peppy.)  Now I think I may officially have min pin fever.  I so related to the sory because wherever I took Jasmine people adored her and commented about her.  My relatives all wanted one if it would be just like her.  She was a real looker, incredibly smart and healthy and I had thought I might breed her once or twice to give pups to my relatives and then spay her.  Now i'm thinking  I want to get involved in everything about min pins.  I'm looking for a new baby to love and possibly to breed on a limited basis and would like to know something about the show world.  I had someone tell me that she thought Jas had show confirmation but she had confirmation quality Jack Russells and said I should take her to a show min pin breeder for evaluation.  Now I regret that I did not do it. I know this is a long message and maybe this is'nt the board I should use but since I was new I thought I should intro myself and tell my story.  My question are this:  Am I ever going to get over Jas because right now I just want her back?  Will another baby be able to work her magic on my heart the way Jas did?  Has any one heard of hawk's getting their babies and is this a real danger when living in the country?  What steps can I take to make sure nothing like this happens again aside from never allowing them t o run free?(This seems a little cruel to me only because I know how happy Jas was when she could run and frolic with her sisiters but would have done it in a new york minute to prevent what happened)  Does anyone else let their min pins run free on thier farms? Is thier really such a thing as min pin fever and do I have it?  If I want to get more involved in the min pin world of breeding and showing(confirmation, obedience and agility) where do I begin?  I used to show horses (hunter and confirmation) so I understand the show world to a minimal degree.  And mainly can someone help me find a confirmation quality, personality plus, petite little girl that I can love and train and have the option to breed and show (on a limited basis) if I decide I want to go for it?  I just long to hear those tiny feet in my hall and feel that warm snuggle under my covers again and feel those wet kisses when I'm greeted.  How I miss my Jasmine!  Sorry again this is so long.  I am desparate for any input any of you may be able to give.  I know of know other min pin owners in my area and would love input from people who I know can relate to what I am feeling and going through.Thankyou and may God Bless.
Gigi Carson

Welcome!! Sorry to hear about your loss...

Oh, I personally believe everyone should have a min pin! They are the best dogs & so full of personality and this is being said by someone that was never going to have one of those little yappy things... LOL

As for finding a pup you came to the right place but if you want to breed that puppy it will be kind of hard. The breeders here are good and responsible. It will be hard to convince any good breeder to let you have a puppy you want to breed, unless you are a good breeder. No offense is meant by saying this its just hard to know what kind of person you are really talking to while on the internet. But I wish you luck and hope you enjoy being here!

I cried when I read your message and I think I insulted one of my darlings by waking them up and needing to hold and cuddle them close. My poor hubby says I'm too soft. Nonsense on that one too. The first piece of advice I can give you is: allow yourself more time to grieve; don't just rush out and "look for a replacement". The new baby needs to know that she will be loved for herself, not just as a "replacement". Second, go to this site:www.rainbowbridge.com and enter the pet loss chat room. They will help you with the grieving process and allow you to rant and rave and yell and scream and be depressed if needed. You will not be looked down on in there. My best friend is a moderator there, so I can tell her about the pain you are in. The third piece of advice is: Research, Research, Research BEFORE you try to breed. Even if you only want 1 litter to share with family and friends, do your homework. Ask vets about what you need to do to provide proper care to your female, find out if you can give your own first shots to the puppies or if the vet needs to do that, find out what you need to do to keep in with the laws and requirements in your state, and above all else, be willing to work with the breeder you select to buy your female from for breeding. If the breeder you buy from wants to check on the care that your dog gets, be willing to permit the check-up. If the breeder wants to inspect the physical area that your dog is in, allow that too. This way you will have a reputation as a responsible min pin owner and will be looked up on by your breeding peers. Even in you only breed one time or 3 times, you will have won and earned that respect.

So sorry about your loss.  Min-pins truly are addictive.  Once you've had  and a lost one, there's a big void in your life that only a min-pin can fill!
