Mission
“The purpose of the Chatcops Internet Response Team (CIRT) is to provide information and assistance to members of
Chatcops community in implementing proactive measures to reduce the risks of computer security incidents as well as internet threats responding & responding to such threats.

Types of Incidents and Level of Support:
CIRT is authorized to address all types of computer security incidents, which occur, or threaten to occur, at Chatcops. The level of support
given by CIRT will vary depending on the type and severity of the incident or issue, the type of constituent, the size of the user
community affected, and the CIRT's resources at the time, though in all cases some response will be made within one working day.
Officers & resources will be assigned according to the following priorities:
1. Threats to the physical safety of human beings.(SENIOR STAFF ONLY)
2. Root or system-level attacks on Mission Critical Information System(s) or on any part of the backbone network infrastructure.CIRT
E.g., Gateway, Routers.
3. Root or system-level attacks on any public service machine, either multi-user or dedicated-purpose.
4. Compromise of restricted confidential service accounts or software installations, in particular those used for IT applications
containing confidential data, or those used for system administration.
5. Denial of service attacks on items 2-4 above. Denial of service. Definition: "Flood" of messages released with the intention of
slowing or stopping other network traffic.
6. Malicious code attacks. Definition: Harmful software programs, such as viruses, that destroy files, steal passwords, or
otherwise cause damage.
7. Threats, harassment, and other criminal offenses involving individual user accounts & chatroom vilolations. Harassment. Definition: Conduct that is
unwelcome or intimidating to the victim.
8. Forgery and misrepresentation, and other security-related violations of local rules and regulations. Fraud. Definition: Use of
Chatcops computing resources to defraud victims. E.g., Identity theft, use of a stolen credit card.
9. Port scanning. Definition: Hostile Internet searches for open "doors" or ports, through which intruders gain access to

10. Open mail relay. Definition: Use of personal computer to relay mail from one address outside of the msn network or any another
outside address.
11. Compromise of individual user accounts on multi-user systems.
12. Compromise of desktop systems.
13. Denial of service on individual user accounts.
14. Others: Types of incidents other than those mentioned above will be prioritized according to their apparent severity and
extent.
· Commercial use of the Chatcops network. Definition: Use of Chatcop Web pages to sell products or services.
· Copyright infringement. Definition: Unlicensed or unauthorized copying of copyrighted materials or proprietary
software.
· Inappropriate bandwidth use. Definition: Excessive suspicious use of the network for downloading or transferring
large files.
· Spam. Definition: Mass mailing of unsolicited or unwanted e-mail.
