I hear a lot of folks speak highly of their profession and anything you want to know they can give you a good answer. Someone once asked me why I had chosen the field of Social Work. Being a “front line?Social Worker is not always the most rewarding work. I replied that I enjoyed working with people. Yes, the work was very stressful and even risky at times ( I have been assaulted a few times), however, if I can help just one person become a better person I am hopeful that others can be helped. I have explained without hesitation what my work is all about, what the policies, rules and the law is all about. I have at times found myself defending what I do.
As a Christian can you answer a question (s) why you believe what you do? Many years ago I was told by my parents that my one grandfather could quote passage after passage of scripture ?yet he did not practice what he preached. There is a difference between quoting scripture and living it. We need to dedicate our lives to Christ that we may serve Him, represent Him faithfully only then can we demonstrate to the world our faith in God. Let me illustrate

Each year in a certain small community there was a talent show to see who could be the most entertaining. There were two men, one in his thirties the other in his eighties. Both had chosen to recite from memory Psalm 23. The young man was the first to recite this familiar passage of scripture. As he recited the Psalm people became very attentive for this young man was eloquent in his speech, he spoke with confidence, no hesitating in trying to remember what he was saying, he was passionate, his voice thrilled the audience and when he finished people clapped their hands and cheered, he received a standing ovation. Then it was the elderly gentleman’s turn. His voice was cracked with age; he hesitated, fumbling to recall the words and once in awhile he stuttered a bit. After he was finished there was total silence as he walked off stage, no clapping, no cheering and no standing ovation. The silent audience sat unmoved but not so their tears. You see there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen in fact one could hear the occasional sniffling. People had been deeply moved by the old man’s recital. The young man who had recited earlier came back on stage with tears in his eyes and said, “The difference between my recital and his is that I know the Psalm, but he knows the Shepherd.?Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105 (GW).
Peter reminds us that when we do share God’s word with others we must not do so with arrogant superiority but with sincere humility. Remember we once were without Christ, we were undeserving recipients of God’s grace.
