Humble Determination
Just hold on to what you have until I come. (Rev 2:25)

A little cartoon called "Cliff Hanger" is about a courageous man dangling in mid air while gripping a breaking branch on the side of a cliff . In each story, he finds hope that he'll get out of trouble. Yet, after every episode he ends up disappointed, hanging on to the breaking branch.
My dad use to say, "You can't win for losing." We might say, "Why even try."
But the Scriptures say, 'Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.' (Heb 10:23) Christ Jesus, our hope, is the Rock of our salvation. And though at times we feel like we are barely hanging on, his promises are secure and we can stand on them.
If we rely on the circumstances around us, we are on shaky ground. But if we fix our hope in God who promises, then we stand in his grace. Now is the time for humble determination to rely on Jesus and trust in his promises. Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, you are our hope, our one true hope. Help us to trust you and surrender again all of our anxiety to you. Help us when we stumble- to turn again and set our focus on you, to find our rest in you. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. (Heb 10:23)
