Patience
Love is patient... (1Cor 13:4)
______________
The passionate urge to make someone see their shortcomings is common with us. Do we understand that if only that other person would change that then there would be peace in our soul?
That's often my understanding and it may be yours too. But the peace of God passes our understanding and the peace of God is what guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
True, we may have a lot less trouble if that other person changed. But Christian, your good Shepherd is using this to perfect your faith- to change you. Now that's true treasure beyond anything we can imagine.
And let's not fall for the idea that we have been patient and so now we turn to plan 'B'- our way and not the Lord's. It will be unholy and result in quarrelling or worse. It is always present tense with us in the Lord- Love is patient. Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, you are patient. Thank you for your mercy and grace. Forgive us for turning away from you and for quarrelling. Sometimes it seems so difficult to turn from our passionate upset feelings. Help us to turn- to lay our troubles before you and to fight to surrender to you- into your peace. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
Those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isa 40:31)
We have God's Word on it.
