From Julia:

What is Headache?

Headache is among the most common medical complaints. The majority of them are not life threatening. They can be classified into four main categories, namely:

1)Tension headaches

Chronic tension headaches can come from an overload of stress or from being fatigued, but more often they come from physical problems, from psychological and emotional issues, or from depression.
Tension Headaches are the most common type of headaches.

2)Migraine headache

Migraines have well-defined attacks with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to lights and sounds.
Migraine is a pulsating form of headache which is unilateral associated with vomiting, nausea, depression and sensitivity to sound, light, smell etc. Migraine causes are unknown. Migraine is the most common type of vascular headache, which is characterized by pain which is severe in either or both sides of the brain, blur vision and sometimes an upset stomach. Causes of migraine headache are many and varied. For example, stress and tension in one's life leads to headache. Lifestyle pressure with high demands of jobs, high workloads creates tension thereby leading to migraine.

3)Cluster headaches

Cluster headaches come in groups of 1-4 a day in a set cluster period that may be a matter of days but can extend to months.
Cluster headaches are repetitive ones that occur for weeks to months at a time, followed by periods of remission.

4)Hormonal headaches

Hormonal headaches have a similarity to migraines in that they affect only one side of the head and frequently are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to lights and noise.

5) Sinus Headache:

Sinus headache is a type of headache which is caused due to the pressure of the sinus cavities. Sinus headache is felt by pain and compassion in the sinus areas, nasal blocking and swelling of the face, facial pain fever etc. The common aspect of sinusitis is generally the common cold. Sinus headache can be overcome through simple medication of painkillers like paracetamol, aspirin etc, by inhaling steam, hot drinks like soup, tea coffee and rest

Common Causes of Headache

1)Precise cause of it is not known

2)Several physiologic changes in the head and brain
3)Dilation and constriction of blood vessels

4)Abnormal activity of certain neurons

5)Genetic factors may be a cause for migraines

6)Smoking and alcohol may be a cause cluster headaches

Tips 3:

Tips 4:

Make a paste of finely ground cinnamon mixed in 1 tsp of water. Apply this paste on forehead.

Tips 5:

Massage head with rosemary oil.

Tips 6:

Add water to 1 tbsp ginger powder. Heat gently in a pan. Apply the warm mixture on forehead. Keep for 15 minutes.

Few more Tips:

~~Take clove, cinnamon and almond in equal quantities (around 1 teaspoon each) and grind together with a little water to make a paste. Apply paste on the forehead. A paste made of sandalwood powder can also be applied on the forehead.

~~Mix a quarter teaspoon of clove powder in one teaspoon of cinnamon oil. Apply mixture to the location of pain.

~~Wrap a wet cloth around the neck.

~~Oil massage on the scalp also relieves tension and headache. Sesame oil, almond oil, mustard oil or ghee (clarified butter) can be used for massage.

~~Use a cold pack: the cold can cool your head and numb the pain.

~~Use heat: a warm washcloth or a hot water bottle can ease pain

~~Deep breathing exercises: if you suffer from tension headaches, sit in a darkened room and slowly take in deep breaths through your nose and let it out through your mouth. Do this until you feel relaxed.
